True. I've learned from fishing guide that it's no longer legal to whack ice and paralyze burbot for early season catch.i also heard they swim up tiny creek before ice forms. I dont know any hot burbot spot. There are odd ones ecerywhere in all the bays. Occationally i can get two in a row.

Yes they hug bottom tighter than walleye. The one on Thursday smoked my line, and I had to trim 20 feet of line afterwards.

the burbs are kinda like a cross between a rainbow and a walleye as far as the fight is concerned

Over the past few years I occasionally ran into a father and kid pair at dusk. They would just fish in the dark.

Okay, ice hasn't grown much since Thursday. 4" of black ice right off the shore in two bays, and 3" 100 yards out. I didn't venture any farther. Found a couple of pikes.

ive heard 6-8 inches but remember, that can very with new ice. Also...there are methane gas wells all over the lk. that prevent the ice from freezing or you may see ice that is trying to freeze with just a skim...very very dangerous lk. especially this time of yr. KNOWING WHAT I KNOW ...I WOULD NEVER DRIVE ON THIS LAKE

Wondering if anyone has been to Coteau since the big freeze? My ice shack is telling me to get it out on the ice and was wondering if anyone is driving on yet?

Thanks for any info.

Both good areas
Danielson once it is safe is maybe a bit better
If you are not familiar with this lake start at coteau and drill your way around to ensure safe ice.
Always perch pike and whites in the bay. Walleye and rainbows move thru to hunt bait.

Lol
Hasn’t been much snow for sleds for last couple years.
Quads are more the norm but I usually walk.
Just be very aware of areas at Danielson with frozen bubbles (gas) in the ice in a few spots.
Not looking to scare anyone just have seen the mess of ice change rapidly over short distances in better freezing years than this.

Your sure right  on the snow accumulations over the last few years .at least down south of the province. But I do have a cleated track and ice scratchers on the old fan cooled sled. Won’t be traveling fast or for long periods at a time. Feel safer. Don’t really want to risk my truck on uncharted territory. Thanks again.

20" at at  Beaver Flats. Trucks everywhere

beaver flats is the far south end of the lake. I can tell you by expeirience (20yrs.) that from Hitchcock to the north, i would never drive a truck on the ice all yr. long. METHANE GAS WELLS...METHANE GAS WELLS...METHANE GAS WELLS SPELLS OPEN WATER
seems the further north on the lk. the worse they get.

I walked on both and the pump house bay a week ago before the cold snap. At least 6" of ice 100 yards out. I was using a heater in the tent. It should be 10" now. The problem is there is always a risk to find uneven ice.

Anybody fishing around Prairie Lake?  Wondering if we can get on the ice via the launch down there.  Never tried in the winter.
