bait what is the best

I know this has been ask a dozen times. What do you consider the best bait . I 've only been at this for 3 yrs steady  but have done it on and off for 5 yrs and still have not figured out what is the best bait . Have used liver,corn ,worms, live& dead bait, grubs . You name it i've tried it . caught a few  nice  but no great amount. some help would be great . The lake i fish the water is dark color . If this is any help . to telling me what to use.

Depends on what you're fishing for...wigglers or waxies for perch, minnows for Walleye, suckers for pike, in dark or stained water you want a bait that will draw attention by action or smell since sight won't work.

perch ,pickerel, trout ,burbot normal fish

For perch try very small minnows that are lively. More lively the better. There are several popular ice fishing jigs. Try green and orange colored Genz worms, marmooskas and ratfinkees in size 12 for perch with 3 maggots on them. Perch love them. Pickerel will eat the minnows and the maggots. For burbot fish a large minnow close to bottom on a glow jig. Good Luck

Perch should eat just about anything.
I do well with worms for Crappie.
Bass should eat just about anything to.
Trout are the finicky ones!

[ It all depends on the mood of the fish. First ice I use leeches than I switch to live minnows. I have had many days where salted minnows out produced live.
