White Bass
« on: Feb 16, 2007, 12:15 PM »
Anyone have any pointers for catching white bass or hybrids through the ice?  I am heading to a lake that has a good population, but never targeted them before.  Just minnows, or jigs, or what do you think.  Any thoughs on tips ups for them?

Thanks

I was fishing for panfish and hooked into one. All I had on was a small jig with a waxie on it. I was at my cabin and there is a very small population of them at first I was like oh a nice crappie then i did a double take lol. Are they good to eat?

You can try using the "search" option on Iceshanty. It is up at the top of the page right under the team Trueblue ad.

Are white bass considered garbage fish? Riding the atv back to the cabin I saw a sheephead and a white bass laying on the ice.

There VERY good eating.
They taste just like a yellow bass.
Hybrids are even better tasting, especialy out of clear water.

Are you sure you didnt see a shad or something?

No it was a white bass. I don't really care for people that leave fish on the lake. I picked them up and disposed of them properly.
