Everything is fine for the other auger except mine ??? Have to read some more I guess.

Probably what I should have been doing instead of obsessing with the shanty :embarassed:

Got all the stuff to get the stove up and running today. Maybe a good half days work left, ceiling insulation, viusqueen one wall, roof flashing and chimney install. If I get it out this weekend, I am planning on staying out there either Friday or Saturday night. First I need to round up a bed, does anyone have an army cot or two or something similar I could borrow for now to sleep on. I think the floor would be a little cold and I'm not too sure about all the space the air mattress would take up, besides fishing hooks and rubber stuff filled with air ??? it could get nasty. I will build folding bunks but the whole idea is to get it out there and use it then maybe  build bunks when the fishing is slow.

Got the stove in on Saturday and fired it up on Sunday and had the temp up to 80* in less than an hour. I got some more work done on it today as well. I have two ceiling spaces to finish insulating and then it's pretty much up to finding a trailer.

I'll add the pictures as soon as photobucket cooperates :%$#!:

80? That's going to warm your beer up too fast...might have to fish with the door open!

good job man, what a project!

Do you have it on skids or something so you'll be able to break it out of the ice in april? Any thoughts on how you'll get it on a trailer? Tilt trailer vs. non tilt trailer?

Exactly!  But, I'm sure you'll figure it out...after all the egyptians (or aliens depending on who you ask!) built the pyramids!

Hey - I emailed you a number to call, hopefully he can help with the trailer.

Later~

Brad,  Wainwright has maneuvers down at Black Rapids every week or so....  Just have em' load it on the back of a flat bed and winch it off at the wayside!  OR  perhaps Eielson will requestion a C-17 from McChord and you can perform a "touch and go" on Birch with your shack? :D :D :D

I'd offer my trailer, but I know my axle would snap leaving your driveway! :embarassed:

Maybe you could manufacture a scissor/drop down trailer attachment this summer onto the underside?  You may have to get a load/trucking permit and a wide load sticker for your truck...  I'll run escort for you!

Well I got a trailer that I rented locally and have the :icefish: house all loaded and almost ready to go, I got one more strap to place on it and secure it down.

IT WILL Be on BIRCH TOMORROW (Saturday). I will not be staying around to fish, well maybe not to long but I may need a few people around down there to help unload it. I will need to unload it at the boat launch because the guy doesn't want it out on the ice. I guess he is just concerned about the ice thickness. That's okay, as long as I can make the trip down there in one piece

It was a flippin bear to load on the 8' wide trailer and took at least 2 hours if not longer to get it on there :%$#!: :%$#!: :%$#!:  But we got it loaded ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Next weekend though I may be down there and even sleeping over, YEAH! This weekend with trying to work the marriage thing out and get some things done, I plan on make it a quick trip

Well the shanty is finally done for at least this year and now all there is left for me to do now is enjoy :icefish: from it while I can. I put it out last Saturday and drilled three holes to anchor it down but I didn't fish from it. That will be happening this weekend and you all are welcome to come by and say hello.

The iceshanty is officially open for buisness on Birch Lake and here are ther pictures to prove it.

That's awesome! looks good out there...

I'm glad you were able to get it down there - getting it on and off the ice now should be easy by comparison! (I bet that was a pretty white knuckle drive!)

Funny you mention an expresso machine, Brad's one window is a slider and when I was leaving yesterday we joked about it being a drive up expesso stand. Great job on the shack Brad, sure was nice and comfortable when I stopped by.

I am planning on working on the inside after I get the outside stained and a coat of asphalt on the roof to weatherize it. It has been a pretty crappy summer here and we have had lots or rain and cooler than normal weather and I hope to get it done before the snow flies and it gets to cold. I'll be sure to post some updated pictures when I get a chance.

Nice shack!.... I think you should park it on the lake shore and rent it out or use it for a off-ice season fish camp.

Fishin' Fireman I might just have to come up your way and take a look at this palace of yours.  Provided you'll let us volunteer firefighters fish with you.  And also, if I can get enough credit cards to afford the diesel fuel I'll burn between Kenai and Fairbanks.

I'll work on it this weekend. I got an EMT refresher and my daughter so I'm juggling my time and should be able to find some soon since I am off for a 3 day weekend. I just need to add more photos to photobucket.

FF, have you ever heard of anyone building a shanty out of metal studs?  ....just a thought I've been tossing around.  Seems like it would be alot lighter, but maybe weight isn't really an issue....Anyone have thoughts on this, or know of someone that's done this?

It's a good thing you live in Alaska!!!  It's gonna be spring before you get that mansion out on the ice. ;)
