After my research it sounds like the FL 20 will be a great fit for me. Can anyone explain what ice-ducer size cone they like the best and why?

Depends on the depth you will be fishing. They have single beam with 12 or 19 degrees, dual beam with 9 and 19, triple beam with 8,12 and 19 degrees or the new Proview which is variable (i may be off by a degree or two but i think these are correct).

My FL18 has the 12 degree and it is great to about 90 feet or so.

I have my eyes open for a good deal on the dual, tri or pro view.

You can get great deals on refurbished vexilars from their website.  A lot cheaper than on the shelf at the store, but still work just as good.
