In need to move between 600 and 700 1 lb.trout from a 1/10th acre pond fed by a well to a larger almost 3/4 acre pond before they get too big and cause issues in the small pond. Problem is I can't move them until the water in the larger pond is consistently in the 50's as it is not fed by the well. Should have been able to do this 2 weeks ago!  >:(

Nope, no ice this year. I guess you have to   find a different hobby. Maybe one where they like whiners, try watching political shows. Those folks friggin love whiners.

I have never seen a winter without ice here in balmy South Dakota. Snow up to my ears and more than fifty inches of ice I have seen more than I care to.  ;)

I’m predicting a good “normal” winter here. Based on nothing besides the fact that we are due for one and the early predictions from the weather geeks, but they have been wrong before.

September 24th it was 90 and I was water skiing. Usually done with that sport after Labor Day. Not a good sign, but things can turn in a hurry.

When the artic air breaks through the pressure ridge we will go from 70 to 30 pretty fast. Just hope it happens sooner then later.

Right now, I'm just hoping we get past turnover, 55-58°, by the end of October in NE WI.

I'll check back with you this winter and see who's whining.

We finally had our first frost on October 26th.

Btw there is no excuse to be nasty about it. We are all one big family here.

I don't expect safe ice before the third week in December, and it'll be gone by the third week of February. I''ll have to drive a couple hours north and west if I want more than that

My guess it's going to be a snowy winter.
I'm noticing a lot of cones on the trees.
A lot of apples and acorns.
Which usually happens before a hard winter.
We'll get ice I'm sure of that.
It is what it is, cannot whine about it.

There will absolutely, positively be decent ice this year. The real questions are where and when?  ;)2

For example: Any where near me and and any time soon??

I don't consider expressing my concerns as whining.

But yes we have no control over what happens.

Lake Country will be a bit yet. Vilas and Oneida Co's? It's coming fast. Water temps dropped over 10° in less than a week. I'm on Palmer and we had 39-42 last thurs with snow and cold all weekend. By this weekend it could easily be in the mid-upper 30's.

We still have snow on the ground since last Friday. The 2 big lakes I drive by on my way to work this morning did not have any sign of steam rising off them and it was 25° out. I bet the water is in the very low 40°s.

Red Lake in MN has ice out about 60 feet as of this morning.  I usually make an early ice trip up there the first weekend in December (crowds are improved with the Saint Paul Ice Show that weekend and it's usually dynamite fishing).  With that happening already and taking the long-term forecast into account, it looks like I'll be driving out that weekend.

I heard on the radio this morning on the fishing report out of Duluth MN. that with the much colder temps we have been having and with the predictions for the future forecast, we should have fishable ice by Thankgiving. There are small corner bays on some lakes that are iced over right now. (I have seen a few myself)  We have had snow on the ground for 7 straight days now. Starting this Sunday night lows will be in the mid teens.
