You really should have patented the idea.
Your a good man to share your idea with the masses.
I'm thinking of a modification to it as a knock down complete sled.
Since a lot of people are moving to smaller vehicles with the cost of gas.
Will be working on it next week. I'll post some pics.

What keeps your shelters from falling off of your home-made sleds? I fish a lake that you have to climb a hill to get back to your vehicle and I think my shelter would slide off of the sled.

Check the pics on 1st page, I have 2 rather long bungee cords I put across and hook to the "I" bolts on side of sled. Smitty

I think this will go down as one of the best inventions to ever hit the shanty! Just seeing one of these on the ice will be saying "I'm an Iceshanty.com member".

I don't think so......you have been here longer than me though. Everybody's ideas should be treated equally. If it is one of the best....so be it, but I'm here to look for ideas too and share if it can help somebody here. Smitty

I spent more time thinking about a design than building yours.  The time saved in thinking, building, and pulling  warrents a huge thanks. Im a new shanty guy and I can say that this community has helped me more than anyother web fishing source. Thanks a bunch.  Sidenote: having trouble sealing the deal on my walleyes. No problem bringing them in and getting a chase but then nuttin. Any suggestions?

Love the sled. I have a shappell DX 3000 and like everyone else it's a pain pulling it in the snow.

Well I built mine on Fri and tested it out in my yard and realized that I needed to make some adjustments.  The great thing about Smittys design is if you build big its real easy to modify.  My Nanook is 36 in from gunnel to gunnel but the bottom is 29 in.. This created a problem because if the shanty moved forward or back then it would slide between the skies.  Easy fix cut the 2x4s. The one thing that worked great was the belt sand paper I added to the 2x4s worked awsome. Get the none paper backed stuff. And someone mentioned that the turning radious is much better if the the skies are closer......so true. I noticed it seems to strap tighter too.  Hope this helps save some time for someone.

Used mine yesterday and it worked out great. I think i'm going to try to make something off the back for my buckets to sit in. I was thinking PVC pipe. When the sled is complete i will have some pics up.

Are there advantages to either wider or narrower skis?  Great fun to see the sleds.  Nice work Smitty!

I used a deck screw and drove them in below the ski so they would not drag.
