Went out in the ice late today for an hour in Moultonboro. Caught this nice Bow as we were about to head in. Weekend is off to a good start! Will post more pics as weekend goes on. Stay tuned, my friends!
-
nice fish bob, thanks for te pics too !
-
uhhh...that is a salmon.
-
Definitely a salmon
-
If u kept it dont tell delete asap. Its a salmon. Learn your fish avoid fines.
-
That's a salmon...
-
We always release. I thought it was a Bow

.
??? ::)...not a rainbow.
-
I’m sure it was a blast pulling it in. It’s unfortunate that it was a salmon. Hopefully the rest of your weekend is more fruitful.
This is just an opportunity to learn from a mistake with no harm done.
-
This happens every year. Now you’ll know for the next time.
The guys here will tell you, seems like every year somebody, proud as a peacock, brings there “rainbow”
To the board at the derby to be weighed in, only to walk away with a fine and a lesson learned
KK
-
What is the fine for pulling up a salmon? Assuming it was definitely a salmon?
-
It was definitely a salmon. No doubt.
It is illegal in the state of NH to take a salmon out, and take photos during the closed season. It has to be immediately released.
-
You're from MA? Fishing with Elizabeth Warren for a day. Sorry.
-

Didn't see the pic but given the folks saying it was, it was.
Not sure what the price of a salmon fine is, but loss of fishing license for a year often accompanies fishing fines in NH.
-
Just saw the quote of the year!
"Fishing with Elizabeth Warren for a day, sorry."
:roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
-
I hope it wasn't a salmon but if it was it was an honest mistake. I release everything I catch anyways so if indeed it was one the fish is free. I love to fish and always have a license in NH and in Mass. I obey all rules and it looked like a bow to me. If it was it was an honest mistake.

We are all capable of making a mistake. No problem on my end. Just one question: Where are you taking Elizabeth fishing?
-
I am not taking her fishing but if I were to I would make sure the ice is very thin and I would let her go first.
-
I’ve seen this before but backwards, I had a buddy catch a nice plump rainbow and think it was a salmon and cut his line for release!! Derby weekend!! lol we still bust his chops every time out!
-
Released but most likely dead now, I heard the camera flash kills them ;D .. May want to check out a species chart before you keep fishing this weekend.
However to your defense NH has stocked salmon in 6 trap lakes and ponds not stated to have salmon and people would never think to check it at the hole just rip whatever is on the line out.. I have unintentionally pulled them out not thinking I would ever catch one in that body of water. But I am assuming this was a two trap big lake so not the case.
-
Honest mistake...I still contend we should be able to keep 2 salmon per ice season, but I'm sure it would be a logistical nightmare to track and keep others from abusing it. Would be nice though.

Give me a break camera flash kills them. Never heard of such a thing. I can see you busting the guys balls about it being a salmon but come on.

I think the only way to keep it honest would be to be able to purchase 1 sleeve of 2 salmon tags per season. Buy it if you want to keep them, dont if you dont. With that said, i know nothing about the salmon stock in NH and was just responding to how it might be possible.

Pretty sure that was sarcasm.

Some pics from today. Flag went up, saw that it was a salmon, cut the mono line, obey the laws of NH. We had a decent day.

Some nice lakers there Bob! Keep it going, it’s only Friday!
-
Bob, you and your buddy had a great day, Congrats!
I've heard at least a couple people on here and many more from space book this year, (in defense) say "ya gotta bring em thru the hole to know what they are".
:nono:, Not true! In that salmon pic, it's obvious what it is!
Should be even more obvious in person! Know your rules and your species before you go. Not necessarily at you, Bob (anymore) ;), but people should know or they're derelict IMO.
-
AWESOME 😂🤣
Times 100 or more! :cookoo:

Nice fish guys

very good point this is a fact. I was thinking the very same thing. Kinda tricky they stocked salmon in a few 6 trap lakes. Only heard of 2 being caught though. I have a feeling a lot of the salmon in the 6 trap lake stockings didn't fare well. We will see. 2016 stocking reports will list what lakes they were placed in.

I’m curious as to how you were informed the F&G stocked 6 trap lakes with salmos? I am not saying you are incorrect, but someone who I know informed me that no salmon were stocked in 6 trap lakes. I have no reason to think he is incorrect, but stranger things have happened.
He was with me in that the fish were most likely browns, or drop downs from other areas. Again, not trying to start a fight I am just curious if perhaps my friend was wrong.

It’s in the 2016 annual stocking report. I asked a CO about it, and he confirmed it, too.

Ahh ok that makes more sense. My friend would have only known about 2017 stockings, and that is what I had asked about. Thank you Scott.
-
any idea when 2017 annual comes out? Seeing some curious reports for 2016.......
-
They were put in those 6 trap lakes as well as 2 trap lakes that are just managed for lakers due to an over abundance of them in the hatchery. It won’t happen again for quite some time.
-
Ice man I'll would be willing to take that white perch off your hands Lol

How was I Informed? The first one I caught in a 6 trap was thru the ice, ripped it right out never thinking I'd catch a salmon there. Have caught plenty more since on open water. They are actually doing better than most of the ones I catch in a designated salmon lake... I do not keep them so hopefully that will contribute to them lasting a bit longer as they are extremely fun to catch in a kayak.
