Nice!  Good looking buck!  I’m finally getting all my gear organized and ready to go.  I might make one more open water trip this Sunday, though.

Hey thats a great buck!!   No antlers for me this year but both my father and I filled cow elk tags in recent weeks so Im not complaining.   Ive got a lot of sausage and jerky making to do while i wait for these lakes up here to freeze.

Great pics and nice cow. I took a cow last year on day two even though I also had a bull tag.  Shot the smallest legal bull possible with my muzzleloader this year on opening day and had to kick 6x6s out of the way on the pack out.  I’m not a good trophy hunter!

I shoot the first elk I see! (Dad does too) It helps being able to use a mule because I never have to consider the "how am I gonna get this out of here" part.  I always hunt 4th season after the out of state invasion subsides and its an either sex tag so anything but a spike gets it.
after years of guiding and watching guys pass up elk only to go home upset and empty handed, I have no problems dropping a small cow (errr umm.. bull calf).  The meat is very valuable to me, and no money in the budget for taxidermy anyway.  Last 8 years ive taken 5 cows, 2 bull calves, and one small 5x5 (but only bc he was the first one I saw, tough luck).
