Good Ice on Uncle Tarry
« on: Nov 13, 2019, 07:07 AM »
There's a good 8 plus inches out there, edges were soft in about a half foot of water but overall here to stay for the year. No big fish to speak of besides slimmers and small pike and small brown, but it is sooo good to be on the ice early on in the year.

Here you go, since it's not Antero you won't be seeing pigs, it's more like a report for people to see how the ice is and the fishing:

It always seems like Tarryhole clocks in about two weeks ahead of its big sisters. Antyhole can't seem to make up its mind and the Mile is putting it on from north to south but is

struggling to catch up. Good production values on the video as usual. Never have been able to appreciate the charm of that pencil grip technique that you fellows employ. Not only

does it look gay but you lose your hand and wrist hookset power. First ice outing of the year for me will be tomorrow and maybe I'll be less crabby and judgmental after that.

Thanks for the video.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

Too funny, Stinky!  I dont get that Ghey grip either but whatever works I guess.

Back in the day the only reason EVER to hit Tarryhole was when we got our butts kicked at the Mile.  30 min drive and feel good again- :P

The gay grip for rainbows seems pretty fitting to me. :p

In all seriousness I will use a normal grip for walleye and lakers pan fish don't need much power when setting the hook just my preference.

Great video, as usual!  No bigguns, but still ice fishing, and that rocks in my book.

Now, about that pencil grip --- I thought it looked and felt LAME a few years back, but I can tell you, that's all I use now.  It does depend on the rod you're using, like some of my laker rods are too big for it.  But for any finesse fishing, where you want to feel the bite and have a finesse hook set, it's the way to go.  Just a good lift up is all I ever use for setting the hook, even for bass.  Lakers in 80 fow is another story...

Anyway, I tried the grip for one or two trips, and then it became natural.  Don't knock it till you try it!

Gone like the wild goose in winter. I ain't going up after all.

You'll sure never see a picture of John Wayne using the pencil grip.

Bwahaha!  Good point.  I guess if you're catching like you do ususally...no need to change anything...ever.   ;D ;D ;D

John Wayne made the holes with his rifle...and grabbed the fish with his bare hands through the ice.   ;D

It doesn’t really have safe ice anymore in a few spots north are still good. Just don’t wonder around the lake too much.
