Glass or Carbon

Carbon for walleye all day, like my glass rods for panfish.

I prefer carbon for almost every technique. I can work the baits better (be it bigger baits for walleye, or tiny tungsten for crappies/bluegill) and I personally like to feel the bite. Not all carbon are good though, you need one with a soft bend and high quality components so you can feel the bites. A good rod, with good line, and a good angler should make for being able to feel a bluegill suck in the bait vs waiting to see the tip move.

The time when I do actually like glass rods are on bluegill bites when they just arent sucking it in all the way, and you have to wait for the classic 2 pump (first hit they grab the tail of the bait/worms, second they suck it in all the way) glass helps keep them from feeling you in this situation.

or get an Ugly Stick and get a composite of both glass and carbon. 

I'm mostly a Carbon blank in preference.  My preference is to be able to play the fish with more control and response from my end and a carbon type of blank is better suited for that purpose.

You can get the same flex with either, but a graphite will be lighter in weight, and in general either thinner walled, smaller diameter tube, or both.

This means in general graphite will be more sensitive, glass more rugged.

One further difference, it you are making a soft rod, glass is a better choice since it has a lower modulus. In the limit, I suppose plastic or metal would be even softer- suppose that is why we make spring bobbers out of metal or plastic.

i fish mostly glass noodle rods.  carbons are fine, but i prefer to see the bite.

Yup, both. Carbon when I want to be able to bury the hook a bit more. Agree with the other too that a good glass or carbon rod will let you feel a lot of other things mass produced rods wont.

Depends on what I'm doing. I like glass for lighter panfish jigging, and prefer carbon or graphite for running a bobber or a heavier action jigging rod. Glass can be a bit too flexy for hooksets on a bobber rig for my tastes.
