We had a week of warm temps and are now paying the price with lows to -16 at night and highs to  a balmy 0 for the rest of the week.
Ice should be ok for a while yet.  ;)2

Okay I checked out some lakes close to PG and needed my hipwaders to get out on the ice. The old fishin holes have expanded enough to fall in so I would not go out on the ice anymore. The ice that is left is very slushy. My best guess for the ice to come off around here providing the weather stays warm and a little wind is the first week of May. Do you think that is too much to expect? Well when ever it happens it wont be soon enough for me. See ya all on the water soon.

Ice is off legion bay but on the rest. Probably by Monday it will be ice free.

Yes we in the north here have it so rough......icefishing 6 months of the year really sucks. Just remember the good old days like this month when your swatting bugs, or getting chased by bears in the summer  ;)

A couple years ago I was icefishing on Purden in early April in my gum boots, then the next day soft water boat fishing on Cluculz.
Life is short boys....don't spend time waiting for tomorrow ;)2 Then you will get old like me and wish you fished all the in between times ;D

I can do without the bugs, but I kinda like playing Hide and Seek with the bears!!!  :o

I came face to face with about a #1000'er last September!! It was the best adrenaline rush going!!! YEEE HAAA!!!!!  ;D
It was pretty neat standing 15' apart looking at each other. I have to say they look a lot bigger when they are that close.  :woot:
I have atleast one or two close encounters per fall on my trips to Alaska. That was the biggest bear I have ever seen as well as the closest I have been to one that wasn't housed in a zoo (closer maybe).
I just wish I had a free hand to take her picture, but my fishin' rod was in my right and the bear spray was in the left.  8)
I did get a going away shot but it doen't do her justice.

Yeah I've ran into a few grizzly on the river and they seem to be OK since lots of food around.
Did have to shoot a couple black bears on different occasions that were charging me when on creek or river. I give them to 10 feet to bluff (which they usually do) but at 10 feet I pull the trigger on my defender.
Never met one charging in winter ;D

Sure would be alot easier if they would let us carry pistols in Canada.  ::)
One of my buddies in Alaska got a new bear repeller last fall.
It's a sweet little revolver that is great for bear defense while wading.
I don't remember the make but it's a snub nose stainless .454 with a 2" barrel.  :o
I would guess you would want the first shot to count as recovering from the muzzle jump on that bad boy would take too long for a follow up shot in close quarters.

I live in Quesnel and Pete lake is still a ways away yet. Maybe next weekend. We are wanting to go to Batnuni on May long weekend for a derby but I don't think she is gonna be open.

Now on a more serious note ice is off on Dragon as of early this week. I think I will wait till after it turns.

Pete is all the way off and has been for a few days. I can tell you the fishin has been incredibly slow and the lake is turning as we speak.
