Just jig it. Remember no bait on a treble hook.

On set lines/traps I use European nightcrawlers, dillies, or half a Canadian crawler on a size 6 or bigger circle hooks. Don’t set the hook, just start a slow steady pull and they hook themselves. When jigging, anything that adds scent to jig or lure of choice

If Rodney Dangerfield went fishing!

My go to is a small tungsten jig head with soft plastics or a piece of worm.

Honestly it’s a fish that up until 2 weeks ago lived in a concrete runway for a few years, no bait even needed. Hell you gotta dodge your jig head and swim and juke  it around the smaller ones with no bait just to get to the fatter ones. Most days you can see 12 in a hole at a time and they will Litterally jump out of the hole on thin ice at a bare jig head.

And they, for the most part don't last long, easy targets... taste like crap too!
