Echo ED-2000
« on: Jan 01, 2020, 08:55 PM »
Hey,

I just picked up this auger.

It might be a converted earth auger.

It's a small engine 21 cc.

It might be a little underpowered.

I only paid $80.  And it came with 8" and 6" swede bore augers.

The previous owner had left Ethanol treated gas in it some obviously the carb is varnished and I found the gas line in the tank was completely corroded!!

Thanks ethanol.

Anyways I stripped, soaked and cleaned carb best I could.

I got it running but has issues .

I found a replacement carb for $25 off eBay that comes with primer bulb and new lines.

Even if this auger is a little underpowered I am still gonna keep it because but is super light.

Anyone use an Ed-2000 echo?

I can't say I've used this model but overall have had good luck and positive feedback with Echo Small Engines.  I jumped on a mid range line trimmer a couple of years ago and have zero regrets...gave my old Stihl trimmer away.  Apples & oranges IMO.  First or second pull every time.  I work with a number of landscape contractors and grounds maintenance guys and they've told me that Echo is a step up from all of the Big Box Store offerings. 21cc seems small for an 8 but the Tanaka 270 I snagged before the drill revolution is an awesome bit of engineering and it was designed for bulb planting.  I've been running that with Amsoil at 80:1 on my Laker Trips (8" Nils) for a few years and that baby rocks!  Echo should have some authorized service centers if you are near town. After that stick with E Zero.

Something I found interesting is there only seems to be an idle screw.....cannot find hi/lo jet?

Pretty sure it's a Walbro carb.

I know my Echo chainsaw has hi/lo jet.

As it sits right now the auger opens up nicely but stalls.....

Hopefully New carb fixes issue.

My little project is finished.

The power to weight ratio of these Japanese motors is phenomenal.

This is a 21 cc motor but has all kinds of torque.

Weight is under 23 lbs, the extension is built to go inside flighting.

So it would likely save 3 pounds if take out.

Will post a video of it drilling later.

The China carb wasn't a perfect fit....but the old carb had a hidden single jet.  The NEW carb came with primer and visible hi speed jet, but hidden low speed jet.

How can you go wrong for $25.

Runs perfect after warm up.

Next project will be mount on back of SB Assault.
