Food for thought

Ever wonder why an 8" hole is so much more work than a 6"?
Here's the formula for a cylinder's volume. V=pi(r^2)xH Volume = pi x radius squared x height
We'll assume a foot of ice for these calculations:
8" V=3.14(8^2)x12 = 2411.52
6" V=3.14(6^2)x12 = 1356.48

An 8 inch hole is 1.77 times more ice removed than a 6"! Thats almost twice as much more ice! Just a little food for thought...
So the next time you and your friend go fishing and he drills 100 holes with his 6" and you drill 100 with your 8", tell him you smoked him because you drilled 177! (If your arms don't fall off first...)

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable,
a perpetual series of occasions for hope.

Disregard those calculations, the formula calls for the radius, not diameter...
Here's the correct data:
8" V=3.14(4^2)x12 = 602.88
6" V=3.14(3^2)x12 = 339.12

Still 1.77 times as much ice...
The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable,
a perpetual series of occasions for hope.
