Long range forecast isn't too favorable for any of the deep water  >:(

anyone who walks out on the ice, drills a hole, and sees THAT and does anything besides turn around and go home, is absolutely NUTS. what is that like 3/4 of an inch?

I drew a really intense diagram to help you better understand try focusing on the area circled in red and not the other side of the hole

Oh that's my bad I was too focused on the side of the hole where you can actually see the thickness of the ice lol

Clear black ice never shows good in pictures. If it looks like half inch it's probably closer to 3". if it looks like an inch or 1.5" like it does in this picture it's gonna be 3.5-4" at least

Had a very productive day in Harris bay yesterday. Wind kicked up mid morning and destroyed skim ice however. If you do venture out, just remember to spud constantly. Plenty of spots where my spud bar was going through after 1 or 2 wacks. Had to backtrack to move around some of the crapp ier spots. Found a lot of areas with 3-5" of ice. Most holes had ~3" of clear ice and the rest was cloudy. Ice definitely softened by the end of the day so make sure you spud back as well. Had to take a slightly different route back to shore due to poor ice conditions on the original path out.

Ed can you please make sure the hole is cleaned up more next time to provide a clearer view? Maybe use a go pro to get an underwater shot to ensure that the measuring tape is indeed on the bottom of the ice.  ;) :roflmao:

Who's out in the Eskimo hub??? Looks awfully windy with lots of open water blocking most access to deep water

Fished Katskill/Warner Bay this morning. Ice conditions were very sketchy and we had to spud our way out. We ended up fishing short of where we wanted to be, didn’t want to push our luck any further. Ended up on 3.5” of ice, but there were several spots on the way out that were 2” or less, my spud was going thru on one hit.  To be honest, I’ve never had to use my spud that much because I generally don’t go out unless ice conditions are much much better, but with the current ice conditions, your spud is your most essential piece of ice equipment you own. Without a doubt, I’d have got wet today without it..

Oh, the fishing wasn’t all that great either.

Planning on going to MDB or Huddle Saturday morning.  Whichever seems safer. I'm hoping the next 2 nights of cold will tighten things up more.
