Even if it’s right around freezing, the days are longer and sun is stronger. The snow still melts and the ice gets soft.

Pilots Knob.  The conditions are ok, just beware, especially around the weep holes.  The ice is getting pretty soft...in a hurry.  I fished from in front of the beach 80-100 fow down past Phelps Island.  No luck with the Lakers...had a few chasers in the AM, nothing in the afternoon.  Moved in and grabbed some perch for dinner, bite was good.

It sure can't hurt. This time of year it's not about how high the temperature gets, it's about how long each day is above freezing.

This time of year I bring my floaties.

Just would like to thank the guy in the red UTV pulling the eskimo flip over shanty for hitting my tipup today off MDB.  I watched you turn your head after slamming into it. The least you could do was stop and apologize. These things aren't cheap.

Great video just posted on this guys YouTube Channel.  He's fishing with a stick on LG for perch vs. his wife.  Funny stuff.

that lake is funny...was there 2 weeks ago and a less popular access already had a significant open water that could have used a plank...and the deeper you go the thinner the ice, which is normal, just deceiving on George because the bays free sooner...appreciate the feedback and have a safe day out there!

pretty sure we met you today. same report from us. lots of chasers no takers. ice was sketchy in the AM so I can definitely see why people said it was deteriorating. The cold and wind today locked it all up, though. No trucks on the ice. Given what I saw, I wouldn’t try. Spoke to several others who fished various parts of the lake and all said it was very slow.

Bixby had a huge wet ridge between the bubblers on Monday
You may have planked it then but I can’t imagine it faired well Thursday’s Friday

Last sunday 31 degree water 1' under this ice.  This past Sunday 35.47.  She's warming up.

It's going to go quick.  Last Friday it rained moderate to downpour for 1 1/2 hours.  Lot of standing water got absorbed into the ice in 2 hours after.  Soft and air filled...note that the 6" of black ice underneath was compromised 5
-6 weeks ago with a warm spell as well.
Hoping for one last stab at em this weekend.  I can't go out with a bunch of lazy chasers like this past weekend.
I'd rather be fishing...
