My friend said there were guys fishing the bays taody ???

theres been a few guys on the very back of some of the bays, but its super limited with really no access, with this wind it could wreck what little tiny bit of ice there was

Keep the faith big red! Pray for cold as F*&*! I love watching people complain about snow and cold.. it makes me smile knowing that one of my favorite past times is on the horizon!

I love using tip ups as well! It's the excitement of the unknown what's on the end of your line! My heart always pounds when I get a flag especially if it's in pike water or on a dead Ciscoe set up on bottom in 100 FOW! In recent seasons I've been using Auto Fishermen in lieu of tip ups for the deep sets. The frozen fingers appreciate not having to wind up wet line in cold windy conditions!

I use the same thing ,But use a dead sucker with a live minnow. Works very well

Took a gamble and booked an ice fishing trip up there for the last weekend in January a few months ago. Can't wait to get away and relax. Used to fish the lake a lot during the winter when I was a kid. Starting to get nervous but looking at the forecast for this week I am trying to convince myself that there will be at least some place to fish when I go up there. Wondering if any locals could share their 2 cents on what may or may not be by the end of the month?

Thanks!

I would say end of the month probably 85% chance you will at least be able to fish the back bays.

I recently gained an access to the extreme northern part of the lake around mossy point. I have never fished up there so I was hoping to gain a little insight on the area. I mostly target perch and occasionally lakers. Please PM me with any info you care to divulge. Thanks

I've fished that area for lakers, the extreme northern end of the deep water - we caught plenty in the 60-100 foot range.   Some big pike in that area too.

Just a thought, you might think about looking at other lakes in the area, just in case. Brant, Glenn, Luzerne and even Sacandaga Resivoir aren't very far away and most are locked up already.

Not sure the lake temp, but if she's ready, this Friday and Saturday are looking good. Winds from Friday day through Saturday night, are showing light and variable and highs in the 20's and lows below 10.  That's 48 hours for things to start forming. The next chance is Monday night. Crossing my fingers people...

Sacandaga is my back up. Not to far of a drive from LG. Vacation is vacation at that point and if we have to hunt around for some ice its not necessarily the end of the world.

So do you regulars on LG think that there is not a chance there is ice enough for laker depths by mid next week?  Seems like a lot of you are saying end of month is more likely.

Not likely at all.  Would love it if there was.

x2 but i highly doubt it.

Ever since i have started paying attention it seems like we need a night with no wind and 10 below to lock up the big water ....  hopefully i'm wrong  @)
Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange,

Things happen quick with weather like that.  MDB sure happened quick last year...even if that's all we get I'll take it.

How about Harris Bay by the 13-15th? Going to get really cold for a few days this weekend.

(Image removed from quote.)

I'd say it's possible but I wouldn't put any money on it. I think it also depends on how far out into the bay you fish. The bay itself is fairly well protected and once things lock up, it seems to freeze quickly.
