Jigging line
« on: Oct 28, 2020, 12:35 PM »
I love ice fishing and get out whenever I can.  Basically a tip up guy looking for pike but I do some jigging while I’m waiting for a flag.  Want to put new line on my jigging reels that I usually use for Pearce, crappie, etc. what is a good line for this type of jigging?

Thanks

Had the same discussion a while ago from what i got 10lb braid to 8lb fluorocarbon
For braid just get regular power pro
I literally do the same thing in terms of fishing

Go three pound ..its middle of the road ..stick to mono if fishing outside watching/waiting for tip ups . add a great ball bearing swivel (black)and some fluorocarbon leader is also very helpful . Another option to add is a spring bobber ..I prefer the HT Big Eye ..cheap and has a Big Eye especially if you have some stiffer rod
Give a man a fish he eats for a day .Teach a man to ice fish he has an obsession for a lifetime

For panfish I will use Sufix Ice Magic - 3lb mono, been using it for years and like it. If Im going for walleyes, I use the Sufix 832 braid with a 8lb mono leader

Lots of good lines out there.  It just depends really on method and technique and personal preference.

2 lb mono or ice line for most of my jigging rods for panfish.

I've got a 2 lb braid for a lake I fish with a bunch of trees and dirtier water.  2 lb mono does not work if there is any structure around for the fish to run in to.

I use 2 lb mono, Berkley Trilene Micro Ice. I like very light presentations though

#3 Sufix Ice Magic has worked well for me for almost a decade. I 99.9% exclusively fish for panfish and have caught significantly larger fish with it by chance. Mostly bass and a few smaller pike. I think it’s pretty good line.

Agree on 3lb. Suffix ice magic, I also have caught many bigger fish while jigging for perch, lake trout, bass, and pike to name a few. Works for me.

I like using 3# or 4# Sufix Ice Magic on my panfish rods and for lakers i'll use 8# or 10# Sufix 832 ice braid with a 8# flouro leader.
