Shappell FX 100?
« on: Oct 25, 2020, 02:08 PM »
I just sold my Hub because I move a lot and would like something fast, light and mover friendly.

Will be pulling by hand.
Thinking either the Shappell FX100 or Shappell FX100i.

Any issues with these flip overs?

Thanks.

I have a fx 200 and had a 100 until I gave it to a family member,  the front bar is to far up on the sides imho and the  velcro on the flap to hold it to the tub kinda sucks, pretty breezy shack and I didn't like it  no back rest so you are going to be looking for a stadium chair

I like my fx100.back gets sore from sitting all day like i do and when i tried a stadium chair my head hit the top.its light and i like the small sled.doesnt take the whole truck box up like other shelters.Fx100i had real problems last year but heard they fixed that mess.i wouldve had one of those but hearing the nightmares guys had i didnt get one and found killer deals on the clam scout thermal xl.

I have a seat already that will work that is super comfortable in any flip over or hub, I won't use the wood.

I wonder if getting heavy duty sticky Velcro would work better.

I used my Clam Blazer (non-insulated) in a blizzard last year and it worked fine.  I use my own chair and it weighs like 27lbs.

I have an fx100 that i use early season when i can’t use my ATV to pull my Otter lode around. They are definitely on the cheaper side but they work great, The bench seat is ok, I’m 6’4” and i fit in it ok, I have looked at upgrading to a bigger one man but for no more than it gets used it doesn’t make much sense.

I've had 3 different Shappel shelters - I now use an Otter XT Hideout - love it.  IMO - Shappel's quality is just not there.

The biggest reason I want the FX100 is because its light weight, my next option is the Eskimo quickflip 1

Make a smitty sled or do the coffee table hindges and get a heavier/ better shelter. I have an fx200 and delt with shappell when all the issues went down with the fx100i's and they are not a company I will ever recommend.

Done  ;D I want a nicer one man flip over but the weight stops me, the big concern I have is my local lakes/ponds are lots of steep hills, going down is
fine, but back up is literally breath taking.
This is a older picture, my gear has changed quite a bit since.

I have had an FX-100 that I use when fishing solo, especially at early and late ice.  I put Reflectix insulation on the top and back wall with minimal weight added and it stays toasty inside.  Wired in some LED lights with a flip switch panel to run my aerator, camera, and charge my phone.  Mounted a pair of Otter rod holders on the seat frame and made a couple of removable shelves that wedge into the canvas frame.  Also bought an Otter adjustable wind bar that gets put in place on those windy days - helps a lot keeping the front end down during those strong gusts.  It's a bit confined and cozy inside, but all in all it's been a great little shack that's easy for me to handle and setup quick when out on the ice.

I'm very happy with my FX100i.The bench isn't the best for comfort but I really like it. Saves weight compared to a chair and I like being able to set my bait and pole next to me on the bench. Plenty of room for two holes, flasher and heater.

This Clam-

I like the specs and weight of the Clam Blazer, I just can't find it without the huge amount of shipping charge.

Anyways I ended up ordering a Eskimo Quickfish 2I, that way if its colder then expected or the wind picks up a bit I can just pop up a hub.
The Quickfish 2I is about 15-16lbs lighter then my Cabelas XL2000 (44lbs) that I sold even though its listed at (33lbs), so throwing it in my sled should fit better and be a
lot easier to pull.

Maybe towards the end of this ice fishing season I can find a deal on a flip over....

Thanks for all your help eveyone

Definitely go for the insulated fabric - it's well worth it and if you run a heater it will pay for itself eventually from the savings in propane.
Goin' where the wind don't blow so strange,
Maybe off on some high cold mountain chain.
