4 stroke auger oil question
« on: Dec 24, 2004, 11:03 PM »
I have a 1968 auger with a four stroke motor.  Sometimes it is hard to start when it's really cold (about 5 degrees F and colder).  I'm debating the use of synthetic oil in the crank case.  Do you think it would be OK in such an old engine?  I would also run synthetic in the gear case as well.

A four stroke??? Really? I've never seen a 4 stroke auger. Synthetic might not be a good idea in a motor that old. Synthetic well leak by rings if things are not really tight. You can try it, but keep an eye on the oil level. If you are using a lot of oil, switch back to fc based oil.

Synthetic is ok to use in the gear box.
