Have you looked through the recent post? Especially the Equipment board, there have been several discussions on this very topic :)

Everybody has their own opinions. I owned a Jiffy Model 30 for 18 years and it served me well. It was still running great when I sold it last month. I now own a Nils Master... Expensive but the fastest auger on the market these days

The best value hands down is the Eskimo brand.  They have come a long way in the last few years.  The Shark is a great auger.

I have to agree,  the Shark is great,  if you don't mind little more weigth.  Packed with features though :)

We just bought a brand new Strikemaster X-press and it runs like a top and the kicker is it only weighs 24lbs.

The brand you get is a matter of personal preference...Jiffy and Strikemaster use the same engines.  I would suggest that you stick with the 2 HP though...it seems that people have more trouble with the 3 HP.  No matter what brand you get, some general care and maintenance (sta-bil when you put it away in the spring, and a new spark plug every year will do wonders) should keep it running and in good shape for years.

I bought a 2hp 8" jiffy stealth last year, works great and drills holes faster than a 3hp jiffy model 30, it also weighs alot less.  I too have heard of people having trouble with the 3hp engines, they just dont want to run right ;D ;D

I picked up a factory-demo Nils on ebay for $355!!!!  It arrived yesterday!!!  My wife took the boxes & put them under the Christmas tree. . . ???  I'm missing something here. . .  I guess at least I know I'll like my Christmas gift.  ;D

I've never had a power-auger before, but swear by my hand-Nils.  If the power-Nils is as good, I'm sure I made a great investment.
