ice cleats vs snow
« on: Aug 11, 2020, 05:56 AM »
I wear ice cleats when there is a slight snow covering on top of the ice. the problem that I have is that the snow tends to cake up on the cleats. how do you guys keep this from happening? I get this on Yax Trax, Stabilicers, chains and the Eagle Claw ones similar to https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YYY936Q/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=AJIVZ4RQE9RLS&psc=1

Once in a while I will have a day when conditions are just right for ice/snow to cling to my Kahtoolas ..other then giving them a good stomp on a piece of cleared ice I never really explored any other remedy  . I am also cognizant of wind blown snow patches on clear ice ..crossing through them and then onto clear ice can be deadly at times without a stomp or two .

I've done the stomp before.  I'll also slide my feet a little closer to the Mr. Buddy once I get to my spot!

There is a reason why I choose to go into crampons instead of ice cleats.  I never have to worry about snowballing up under the feet.
