I mostly catch yellow perch while jigging, but I'm running out of jigs. I'm not sure which ones i should buy. Does anyone know of any good yellow perch jigs that i could tip with a mousie spike or meal worm?
-
#10 red glow fat boy jigs are one of my favorite, halis, mimic minnows work well for big perch
-
Big fan of Fiska jigs when the perch are in deep water and finicky. Another good one is custom jigs and spin's ratso and shrimpo.

X1000. For two seasons this was hands down my best jig, number 10. I have also had a ton of luck with Fiskas, and Genz Worms.
-
I've always had luck with bright colored fiskas tipped with a waxworm
-
might be a little old school, but I always do good with silver Swedish Pimples. Tip it with mousies or a minnow head and your set.
-
Garnet, i completely agree with u, the perch love them Swedish pimples!!
-
I caught so many jumbo perch last season on a Swedish Pimple and minnow head that my buddy gave the nickname "Minnowhead". ;D
-
Orange glow Forage Fry Minnow tipped with a waxie works for me. Got sick of hauling 'em in the other year.
-
Small buckshot rattle spoon with a hali chain and Gulp minnow heads helped me put these Mutant Perch on the table !!

At times I like Bucksot Rattle Spoons over anything else. There are days when Perch hammer them with bare hooks.
-
1/12th oz gold Kastmasters, or 1/64th oz chartreuse shad darts...
-
what size of pimple works best.
-
i forget the exact one, but it's pretty much the standard size. it's the 2 inch one. what ever that weight is. but i also take off the treble and put the single hook on. seems to increase my catch rate.
-
Searching for them- Buckshot spoon or Jiggin Rap with a dropper is hard to beat. On top of them - Horizontal jig with a plastic whip or wedgee type, red if on muck (worms), white (minnow) otherwise for starters and be open to adjust to their taste at that moment
-
My go to lures are Forage Minnows spoons and Diamond Jigs
-
Hali jig in a perch color/pattern is my go to jig...
-
Hali's in orange and gold and blue and white have been good for me.
I also have done really well on these. Green candy stripe with the orange stripe. Jig it with a minnow head or a wiggler.

Oh Yeah
-
Buckshot spoons work great for me
-
Smelt have always caught me my biggest jumbos! Otherwise a red diamond jig tipped with a maki plastic and spike its solid
-
Hali ice spoons and Shuck's Jigger Minnow(pilki to Iowans) are my best baits for perch. Seems in different area's, the perch always prefer something a little different. In Montana the Hali out does the Pillki every time and vice versa in Iowa.
-
some days the Ratln flyer by lindy is great, bare hook and all in orange and green. love the white swedish pimple too in both standard and small, the ratso are great on one of the lakes i fish color depends on the day and love the small jiggin raps too.
-
yellow jigging rap FTW
-
If I had to go out on the ice with one lure and bait hmmmm that's a toughy...but id have to say a tear drop tipped with a waxie...nothin fancy but it works
-
a 25mm hali either glow/blue or glow/green with 3 spikes
-
Hali on chain hook work good for me too...
-
We do pretty good with ken spoons chrome colours with a pearl bead with a red eye.No need for live bait with these spoons love it.But always good to have a good selection of tackle differents days different bite.
-
hali and a waxie if the perch are suspended or actively feeding, mudbug with a waxie if I need to pull them off the bottom
-
Arnold fairy jigs always did well for me, not many gills, trout, or bass pass them up either
-
I have had some great luck for perch with Genz Worm's and small jigging rapalas.
-
I had my best luck with the mud bug and forage minnow.
-
Here in the North East I have always done very well with a Swedish Pimple, but I have been nailing the BIG ones on a Salmo Chubby!
-
Small perch colored jigging rapala, diamond jigs, Swedish pimple have all worked well for me.
-
My favorite lure is a Shuck's jigging spoon (Or a Hali or a Kodiak perpetual motion- they're all awesome but Shuck's cost the least $) and you're as likely to catch whatever is swimming by as a perch. The chain hook seems to be the best part, I've put a chain hook on a pimple and it works great that way too. Different colors depending on the fish's taste.
-
#10, 2" gold swedish pimple with a perch eye, or as many spikes that will fit on the hook.

I've had some big catch days with these and Hali's 100+ fish.

Kodiak gold spoon with spikes or a perch eye that or the old faithfull PIMPEL lol single hook only add three split rings and that is deadly
-
Each year brings a new hot jig it seems. Last year back to the ole jiggin rap and Genz worm. Tipped with perch eye or shrimp.
-
i use either a buckshot or a silver kastmaster
-
For less aggressive fish 1/8th oz PK spoon in red dot glow or fire tiger with a gill pill or rat fink dropper (tipped with waxies or part of a night crawler) 2 1/4" to 2 1/2" below the spoon. Used to use a swedish pimple with the dropper but seem to be catching more with the smallest PK now. For more aggressive fish will go without the dropper and use a minnow head on the spoon or smallest chubby darter in perch pattern. Also have always done well with a jig head tipped with whole minnow where minnows can be had here.
-
Don't give up on the larger spoons. Our ProStaff often use 3/8th oz PK Spoons and Flutterfish when they're fishing aggressive perch to keep the anklebiters offline and focus on the jumbos. On a fast day there's no point in spending your time teasing a hook out of small fish when there are hungry chunks cruising below the ice. On the plus side, you'll often pick up a bycatch walleye or midsize pike. Of course, if you're fishing with kids and want to keep them occupied, just slip on a 1/4 oz or 1/8 oz, tip with a waxie or spikes, and keep the pliers handy...
-
fiskas tungsten jigs with plastics 95% of the time with real sensitive rod and or spring bobber

I'm new to this jigging game guys - and I notice a lot of you mention the Halie jigs as being especially good for Perch. I went to their web site and there are an awful lot of different Halie jigs - do you mind telling me which Halie jig you are using?
Thanks,
Warren

i would try anything gold

i would try anything gold
Thank you for the reply - but I didn't mean (what color?) I meant - what shape and weight. Have you ever gone into the Halie jig website? There are all shapes and sizes from several ounces to real tiny and they each have a different name. It's confusing to a new guy.
Thanks again,
Warren
-
lol ya i hear ya i would also sujest looking into a pimple they are great and rather common i would use a size 3 or 4 in gold or silver just a thought they have worked well for me

Thanks guy, lol - I already have a bunch of pimples that I use casting for perch and sunnies and gills in the summer - I just have never used them ice fishing - don't know why really.
-
The Hali I use most often is the Sukkula, usually glow green.

Thank you Mark - that is what I was wanting to know. I will try to find some up here but I will probably have to get them on line.
Best regards,
