Crappies and bluegills......
« on: Jan 09, 2014, 12:53 PM »
What's going on this year?  I can't seem to find them anywhere....especially the craps.  Is it slow for everyone?  My home lake seems dead for some reason....springtime there are millions in the shallows and nice ones too.  I can't seem to figure them out for some reason.  Thoughts?  Anyone else struggling?

Then what am I doing wrong?   Just can't seem to locate the dumb things......tried shallow, deep and in between.  I know this lake is loaded......I have slammed them here before......in the springtime they are in the shallows by the thousands along with big gills.

Ran into same problem.  I changed my presentation and water depth, meaning I went from large hali  lures to small micro plastics on tiny jigs and from 15' to 30'of water.  Staying on the move, move with the school.  Lots of luck

Well that would be the smart thing to do but km stubborn.  I need to figure things out in order to be satisfied....  Kinda like learning a new technique in bass fishing, or refining something I'm already good at.

Have you ever tried using a submersible light ? The Crappies are tight lipped during the day on my home lake, so I lower a light at sundown and it draws the Crappies in like a magnet.

Having the same issue in a pond i know like the back of my hand. Ive found the gills, but have only iced two 9" crappie. Did have a slob crappie swim by my hole but no luck. Ive honestly found the big gills are liking a larger presentation. 4.5mm cjs chekai with a waxworm, slabjiggies ice jiggies, entyzer shad darts have all worked for me recently. Wish the crappies would do the same!
