So why didn't ya put the end of the tape at the end of it's tail?  Looks like a 14" perch to me.

Well the end of my slush dipper is pretty beat up and the 3" line was the first that was pretty readable.  I couldn't find a tape measure when I got home and the wife wouldn't let me use her fabric tape so that was all I had.  Fishrmn you are right, it ws a little bit over 14".

Regardless, it's a beauty... there was one about that size yesterday that I spotted about 6 ft down in 15 ft. of water.  I noticed on my camera that my minnow was stripped and when I brought my pimple up to the level of the slab, I twitched the pimple twice and it struck it.  Unfortunately, the pimple's treble hook was actually hooked to the line above the pimple and when it hit, I tried to set the hook, but to no avail...

I love catching them... When you pull them out, it's like a HUGE accomplishment that it didn't snap you off or spit the hook!  You know it's big when your drag starts chirpin!!

Ya I thought that I had an 18" or bigger trout on the line when I was fighting it until I saw yellow thorugh the ice.  I was looking for perch but there are alot of medium to large trout in this pond.  There have been 5lb plus browns come out of it.

My wife called while I was fishing and she said how are you doing? I said, (at that point) just over a half bucket.  She then said, a half bucket of perch is not worth a whole day to me.  I said, well it is to me.  Conversation ended....  No less than 2 minutes later, I caught a jumbo and said to my buddy, This fish alone is worth a whole day to me!

Catching one jumbo perch is like hitting the only good golf shot of your day... It keeps you coming back for more!

Yup!! Love when you lay into a fatty, some of the little ones fight pretty big but there's no mistaking it when you smack a jumbo!

When the rod point is right down to the hole and the drag is screamin', it's a great feeling.

Thanks Guys for your comments.  Hopefully I can catch a few more this year that size.  I love to fish for perch on the ice and through flys for trout in the summer.

My sister in law bought me a gag fisherman's ruler a few years ago.  On one side it says "Your Fish" and it is accurate.  It is 24" long.  On the other side it says "My Fish" and it reads up to 36.  My son caught a nice cutthroat trout a couple of weeks ago.  I pulled out the ruler and used the "My Fish" side to measure his catch.  It was 19 inches long, but on the "My Fish" ruler it said 27.  He was on cloud nine for a few seconds before he figured it out.

Nice perch.  Someday I would like to get to the other side of the mountians to fish for perch sometime.  Going to hit the pond again on Sunday and try some different bait and tactics to see if I can land another one of those jumbos.

I caught mine in 18.5 feet of water at the bottom of a drop off.  I was using a Rapala Jigging Rap, chartreus and chrome, with a meal worm.  The fish took it more like a minnow, head first. It was hooked on the front hook.  I was jigging about 1 foot off the bottom when it came up and smacked it.

Probably didn't even need the mealie on there when they hit like that.  But you never know, bait can be the difference between a good day and a bad one.

Those big perch will eat surprisingly large meals... including biggger minnows than most people would think!!!

Awesome perch though, especially for our state!  Grats.

Thanks gemcity.  It would be nice to be able to use live minnows at this pond but the state regs don't allow it.  I am going to try dead minnows this weekend to see if that will produce anymore of them or at least try tipping the jiggin rap with a minnow head.
