Yeeouch !      :o

That's a much easier/better recipe than one I've seen using little oyster crackers.

Something I've found, all Cayenne is not created equal.

Most, in the grocery stores is very mild and rated at 50,000 to 70,000 capsicum units.   The Tbsp is just right.

Some health food stores stock several types, even up to 240,000 CU.     :woot:    A start would be 1/4 teaspoon and if you live, a pinch more, ha.

Great recipe er-e-is.  Thanks.

True, Russ,  a "dusting" of the high CU on the inside sole of your sock, (it'll make you sneeze), can make you sweat at 20 below, hot feet, ha.    ;D

I just used McCormick ground red pepper, I'm sure you could spice it up our down from there. The recipe called for crushed red pepper flakes. Substitute what you like. My wife some made with Town House crackers and NO PEPPERS!

When I read the topic I was expecting something different, but I have never done anything like that with  crackers, do they stay crispy when there done and how long will they keep? It sounds good

Yes, in a gallon size zip lock with a paper towel on bottom to absorb oil. Yes they stay crispy. They don't last long around here!

I like to make them with Ritz crackers over the saltines. Haven't made them in a couple of Summers though and really enjoy them best with cold beverages! Thanks for the reminder!

Holy frig! Made these last night, and are they ever FRIGGING GOOD!!!!!! I had to modify the recipe slightly, though. I couldn't find ranch dressing mix at the grocery store, so I used onion soup mix. I was at an impass for a bit, though. I noticed that you didn't mention at what temperature to cook them and for how long, then the light bulb went off: you don't NEED to cook them! Brilliant!!!

Correct, I would substitute melted butter instead.

I kicked mine up a notch today, here's the recipe.

Mix together:
1 cup melted butter
1.5 tbs ground cayenne pepper
1 tbs garlic powder
1 tbs ranch dressing mix
.5 tbs ground mustard

Combine with:
1 box of mini saltines

Microwave for 4 minutes mixing halfway through, then cool on a paper towel.

Same recipe I use except I add 1 tea. lemon pepper and put it over a bag of mini pretzels, marinate over night and bake at 200 degrees for 40 minutes stirring twice.

Mmmmmmm...Fire Crackers....

I use the same recipe as the OP, but for crackers I use 1 box of Cheez-Its, 1 box of Mini Club Crackers and 1-2 bags of Premium Brand Oyster Crackers.  I also let the oil and seasoning mixture set for 30 minutes to 1 hour, stirring every 10 minutes or so to let the flavors "marry".
