Be careful with a machine.  Was out today and ice thickness fluctuated a bit. From 5" plus to 3 or even a touch under 3" .

2x . I was on 3 inches last night . And not in 21 feet of water either . Snow insulated the ice . Very wet out there ! Not time for the Wheeler's yet

If you think toga freezes with a consistent layer everywhere, your gonna learn the hard way. Even on good winters that lake can go from 12” to 5” of ice within a few steps. That lake is loaded with springs. Don’t fault someone for giving ice thicknesses even tho you might not agree with it. I would rather see someone under estimate then over estimate and some guy comes out on 2” of ice on a SXS and goes for a swim because now schmoe measured “8”

I can second that, I went to west Caroga this past weekend with the lady, walked out and there was a guy offshore and I asked how much he had and he said 7". I still decided to spud out and on my 3rd spud mark I went through on my first swing. There was a spot the size of a sewer cap that was 1 hit and through. He looked at me scratching his head. Best guess it was an old hole someone cut when we had a thaw. See it all the time late ice. Never trust the word of others. If you venture off main walking trails early ice always spud. Always a bad feeling when ur spud goes right through on 1 hit.

There is a line once you get past 16 ft of water. Snow did insulate it the cold nights did crap. Only spot that are good are where it bled and flooded snow. After this rain sat and sunday it should be good if it gets cold again. Or it will be that double layer crap

Just dont get it sled tracks everywhere on the lake.. it was pretty sketchy ice conditions out there varied alot fished almost out to stony point then decided to walk to snake hill ice was different ever hole I drilled. One of the weirdest years I've seen. Drilled between 3+- to 4.5 inches. Guy pulled in with a wheeler as I was leaving hope he left it on the trailer. Talking with another guy he got one eye. I caught a bunch of dink perch and 2 nice 14 15 in perch let them go and another one maybe 8 in or so. Very slow. Marked them but very skiddish.
Cacth them by day, fillet them by night.

Use caution out there! I went from brown's beach yesterday and some areas my spud went through with one whack.

Thanks. That’s what I was afraid of, looks dicey out there on the webcam.

Especially given the fact that my fishing buddy Sunday is my daughter!

Was off Fitch this afternoon, 4-5", shore sketchy on edges, I wouldn't drive on to park - slow pick on gills

Well cold snap did zero with the snow on it . i had 5 inches measured in one spot 3.3/4 10 yds away off browns.  My jiffy was ripping through like it was spring ice.  About a hr or so my  area flooded. Ankle deep with water turned it to soup. The rain wont help but might. No real cold to freeze solid.

Out yesterday and experience the same ice conditions as described above.  We were on about 5 inches but the ice was so soft we were able to throw the spud bar through in two hard hits.

Bite was slow

First time trying Saratoga, planning a trip this Saturday. Can I get on the lake from Brown Beach? Also any tips are appreciated, not looking for anyone's hot spot but a spot to catch fish is a plus. I don't eat fish so, just like to get flags. Catch Photo Release

Reasons why priveladges get taken away. Why are people so lazy? Truck parked on 9p facing traffic with truck partially in lane..cars have to slow and go around it...park on fitch like the everyone else. Another car parked on private property. Maybe has permission but doubt it. Then someone took a crap on side of fitch right where people park. Unbelievable. Slobs

Never fished off Brown’s but going to give it a whirl tomorrow. Do people find more success with tip-ups or being mobile and jigging?
