Im sure it can vary near currents and run off in other parts of lake

And it does.   Most years 'toga isn't too bad.   Hell on good freezes I will drive my truck on at 9"...but this year the lake froze quite unevenly, and there are some strange currents and new springs that have opened up.

The only one I know is at Lake Lonely, on the other end of the lake. If your coming from the south there has to be something something on the way up.

Unfortunately my buddy Hank Arsenault is no longer selling bait OR cutting deer.  Just fire wood now.

Browns beach still has alright ice. Anywhere from 5-7 inches. Fishing has been good in the afternoon for bass and pickerel. If you want the walleye go at nighttime. We have been getting some 4lb bass on tip ups

Fishing has been steady at my spot on Toga. Getting a wide variety of species on my tip ups (perch, northern, pickerel, fallfish, and eyes :D). Was only person out this morning (24th) on the northern side. About an inch of slop and water above 5" of ice. Not as strong as it was last week (ice coming up in chips instead of that finely shaved) but besides being wet, I wasn't too concerned where I was at. Watch out in the middle as their is a now sizeable open water hole out by sandy bay just south of the mouth of the Kayaderosseras. Not sure when or how fast the ice thins out as you head out that way. Shoreline ice was also very soft, had to walk down the shoreline to find some solid ice to access the lake.

On Jan. 14, ECO Mark Klein received a call that fishermen on Saratoga Lake were catching bass and sneaking them into their vehicle although bass season was closed. When ECO Klein arrived, he checked the fishermen. All had licenses and there were no obvious violations of the Conservation Law, but when ECO Klein asked about the bass in their vehicle, they admitted to hiding additional fish and turned them over to ECO Klein. All told, seven bass ranging in size from 13 to 19 inches were seized and the fishermen were charged with Taking Bass out of Season.

They taste better from the cold water than they do from warm water!

According to the owner of the Lake Lonely bait shop, most of the walleye taken on Toga this year have been caught in the evening/ at night. That being said, the only two I've personally landed this year were around 11am (under cloudy conditions one day and partly cloudy the other). Good Luck out there though. The cold weather this weekend should sure up the ice again nicely.

Shore ice was looking pretty spent on the way home tonight along fitch road. Also had a guy in the shop today say some of the ice in mannings was getting pushed up onto shore from the wind and ice along rileys.silver beach shorelines was in tough shape. No reports thru the shop the last 2 days as far as ice thickness on the lake. Water in toga will be rising more over the next few days as the creek coming out of Lonely going into the kaydeross is 12" higher in the last 48 hours from the runoff and that will end up in toga in the next few days. And yes, word thru the shop is a lot of the wallys caught were after hours fish or early morning, although an over cast day with a light drizzle produced all day. Good luck and be safe out there.

There is an Ice Shanty 3/4 of the way sunken on the South End of the lake.
