Finally off the ice! Got our butt kicked by the wind the last hour! We looked like pigs on roller skates coming off the ice!

Now, on the subject of crazy fish numbers, I take no offense to the raised eyebrows and to opinions expressed.  As a reasonably experienced angler like so many of the great guys and friends here on IS what happened yesterday and today was WAY beyond the norm for most and especially for me! The fish were simply willing and the bite was on! Didn't matter what we threw at them. What's even kookier is that we didn't even have to move. They just kept coming and coming! Anyway, no magic here just plain luck! That being said, Ship of Fools, BC Shanty and myself iced a total of 78 fish and when added to yesterday's total of 74 fishing with Ship, WEC, Ice Wanderer and Combsey it's a mind boggling total all from the same approximate 100 x 100 foot piece of ice! The single two BEST days of ice fishing I've ever experienced!

Here's wishing everyone the same good time!

Mike

Chisel, that's a 10lb 11oz Brown I jigged up on one of our local reservoirs 3 years ago! My PB brown for the ice! Quite the surprise! Was jigging for lakers and didnt expect a brown off the bottom! Most of the browns we jig are suspended at around 20' down this time of year! BC Shanty was kind enough to land him for me! Here's the mount!

Thats quite an accomplishment. I hope that one day I can put in the time to learn how to have that much success. I finally learned a few tricks a couple years ago for jigging and I started to have some luck. Last year killed me without having any ice and I had to almost start the learning process over again this year. With only three trips under my belt this year, my percentages were much better than in the past.

Thank you sir, suspended 20 ft down I'm on it.    WOW, that is a great fish, a brown is almost better than a salmon. Where did you get I mounted?

Thanks! Was a milestone fish for me.  I don't get many through the ice so those are special! My good friend Mike Swags mounted it for me.  MBS Fish Taxidermy down by me in Putnam County.  He did a big freak hook jawed male brown I caught in open water last May.  Mount is unbelievable! He's pretty fast and great prices because he does it as a sideline hobby.

I'm so pumped right now, and proud as one can be. Took my 4 year old out for his first time ever. He will be 5 soon but don't say that cause he will correct you lol. After getting the frenzy started I dropped
My lure in the mud, grabbed my phone, handed the rod to my 4 year old and coached him into " hooking" his own lake trout. Most of the time, the dad sets the hook and let's the kid catch the fish. In this clip it's just the opposite. This confirms the aggressive bite these lakers have this year. So freakin pumped right now.

I hit a personal milestone today.  I set a goal at the beginning of the season to jig up 100 lakers from George, if she froze.  Actually I set the goal last season but with the lack of ice I wasn't able to even try.  Today I was able to achieve the goal.  I know a lot have already reached it this year in a lot less time but from where I started 6 years ago I've learned a ton.  Thanks to everyone that helped me out including but not limited to mealworm,  ice wanderer, combsey, jager, ship of fools, bigred.  I'll likely finish out this week jigging more lakers, then switch to toothy fish with their season end approaching.  Here's number 100:

(Image removed from quote.)

Now that that's all over with, I'll continue on.  Ya'll suck!  ;D
Next Time I see you I will give you new hot lure. caught 20 for lost count of bites today. Next year you can get 200

A lot of what happened today can be directly linked to this forum. Until a few weeks ago I had no clue how to jig these fish. With the information many of you guys put out their and my own fishtuition I put it all together. The trip off the beach really got me searching for similar areas Jeff, and I definety found one so I thank you again for sharing that day. It built a confidence in me. And just showed that a little bit of extra walking goes a long ways.
Always glad to help a friend, anyways you gave me 1 of your plastic lures for perch last yr. on Harris Bay, just returning the favor. ;D

I also wanted to throw this up here. Over the weekend my father took a nasty fall on the ice at hearthstone and broke a couple ribs. He started the long painful walk off the ice and my buddy and I tried to pack up as fast as possible. My buddy flagged down a guy on a wheeler pulling a trailer with a couple guys in it and they gladly jumped out and walked so he could give my dad a lift in. If your a shanty member and read this shoot me a pm. I want to make sure I run into you again. I really appreciate what you did for my old man, he would have had a really hard time making it off the ice and you really helped him out when you didn't have to. My dad doesn't get to get on the ice very much anymore due to other health issues so it crushed me to see him hurt out there. Thank you again if you see this  your a good man.

Good to see you guys are doing well.  I met Combsie earlier this yer at Durant and judging by the pictures he showed me the stories are all true.  I went out with a friend last Saturday morning and we only caught a couple on tip ups.  Two weeks earlier at the same spot we did better, but nothing like what you guys are doing.  That was great video by Bird21s.  The agressive reeling up action, once you mark a fish, is something I need to try. I have a couple questions.  We are using a power auger; at 60 to 90 feet down it seems this should not have any effect but just wanted  to make sure.  The other is if you are jigging and have not marked any fish how long would you give it a try before packing up and trying another location?  We are thinking of leaving the tip ups home and to keep walking until we figure it out.

Hope you dad is doing ok and will get back out soon.

I also seen a wheeler with a trailer out there. These guys set 15 tip ups in about a 1 mile area.
About every hour the atv would show up from no where and do a long loop to see if any flags were up.
Well 1 time just as he drove away into never land the flag went up. Yup about an hr later he returned to throw a small laker on the ice then head back to the unknown to return with a bait pail.
Dead small fish.

Now if that didn't take the cake:
When we first hit the ice in the am we wanted to fish across by the island.
While walking across I could see a brown homemade shanty that looked like it would go in the back of a truck.
I'm sure anyone that fished hearthstone has seen it straight across from lot close to the island.
So now I'm thinking our spot is taken.. We walk over and there is nobody there but their tip ups sure were with a flag up. Obviously from the day before.
About 8 am or so an atv brings some guy with the key to the shanty over and heads back for the rest of the crew.
About an hour passed before they realized there was a flag and yup another dead short laker hit the ice.

I guess that's why this topic is call LG BS
