Title: Wakefield Parks & Recreation Derby
Post by: waynerob on Feb 16, 2012, 01:20 PM
Saturday February 25. Register a Nutes Bait Shop or at the Parks & Recreation building. This year we have 3 lakes you can fish from. . . Balch, Lovell, and Great East.  There will be 5 categories. White Perch, Rainbow Trout, Yellow Perch, Pickerel and Black Crappie.  Turntable Park (behind the Rec building) is the headquarters. $10 for adults 16 and over and $5 for under 16.   We have lots of prizes and raffles.

This derby has brought in more than $12,000 towards the towns fireworks and other kids programs. The Recreation Department is run on a shoestring budget and this event is very helpful to help the kids and community. We will be giving out hot coffee and coco at the Rec during registration, as well as having a pancake breakfast and lasagna dinner just down the road at St. Anthony's church.

For any other information please call the rec at 603-522-9977

FYI ~ At this time we still have decent ice on Balch and Lovell. On Great East you just need to use your head.  Hope to see you all next weekend.

How is the access from PPP's onto lovell?  Walkable or open?   Also, will we be able to park there again this year Wayne?

The edges on Lovell still look good as does the boat launch. There is parking at the town beach and also just down the road from the beach where the fire hydrant is. One reason we are not having headquarters at the lake is the parking issue. One of the owners said it was ok and another came up hollering at me that he was going to have the cars towed. So to make it work for everyone I moved headquarters to the Rec building.

Just giving a quick update... the boat launch on Lovell is still OK. Getting a little wet in one spot directly at the end of pavement. Great East looks good, although I believe the middle to be getting pretty thin. Had a report from another local fisherman that was on Balch and he had 14 inches. Everyone just try yo use common sense , don't take any chances and be carefull.

Spoke with the Lt. at the police department and we can park some vehicles to the far left side of the Public Safety building (side the PD is on). That should give us another 12 spots. The spots against the building and in front on the fire side are off limits!

Just checked the lakes for our derby tomorrow.  Everything looks good. Plenty of places to get on and as long as people are using their common sense they will be fine. I will be at the Rec for any registrations at 5:30 am tomorrow. There are two different times for weigh on the forms. (a misprint) One says 3:30 and one says 4. We will be using 4pm. Sorry about any confusion.

i didnt make it to great east today, but there was pleanty of ice a few days ago, if you decide to go out in the middle check the ice as you go out, lovell is still a solid 12 inches, good luck everyone and be safe, hope to see some nice fish at the weigh in.
