Well it seems that time of the year is here!
« on: Mar 23, 2008, 05:16 PM »
Switching gears from Ice Fishing and Snow Runs in the Jeep to Fly Fishing, Bank Fishing and Trail/Rock crawling runs in the Jeep. It was a good season, I can always appreciate something that keeps me busy in crappy weather. ;)

I've put away the ice gear as well. It's hard to leave the shanty though. Good friends, good times.

Rooster, Pactola is the place I learned to ice fish! (Won't mention how long ago THAT was!)  ;)
I still remember the 2-3 ft of solid black ice with no snow on top. Have never seen that since...
I remember we used to pull some nice rainbows out of there and my dad caught the biggest yellow perch I've ever seen, fishing from the bank.

Still have enough ice for another week or two here...

We still have good ice here in SE Mn, also. But I feel myself being drawn to open water more & more. The ice gear is still in the Pickup, but the long rods & big tackle box & trout creel will be getting a Start-of-season once over, pretty quick. I plan to hang around the Ice shanty year-round tho' just to help keep the place tidy. Along with the other sites.  ;)

For those that are going away, good luck to you & hope to see ya again soon!

I was going to go out and check the ice last Saturday, but the weather was unfavorable. :-\ With everything going on getting ready to stalk Turkeys, 12s at work I know I'm done till next season.

chezmoose I seen 24" on Pactola this year. This year is the reason I bought a Gas Auger instead of buying wheels for my 63 VW bus. 8)

Still lots of snow on the ice up here in Northwestern Ontario (Dryden and Sioux Lookout area) and its pretty thick ice still, average 2 feet. Went to a small lake up the road here to try for some walleye as i had heard it was good, good job that i found some holes from a couple of days before which were easily openened with my boot cuz the ice must have been close to 4' thick!!!! hopefully a couple more weeks at least of safe ice up here...if not more :) :) :)

Did not get any walleyes, lots of little perch and a couple of Northerns though
