30 more hours and the line will be in the water!
All that is left to do is jack it up and bore holes.

This is what you look like when it has been nearly a week with almost no sleep because you can't stop thinking of that first fish of the year!

Sorry for the long time with no response on the 19th January i was flooded at my house just got back in last night.
Striper nut,I my self do not use sonar as i find it is like kids that play video game, You get stuck watching the screen, will answer questions but without looking at anybody but just the screen. If that is what i wanted i would just stay home and play PS3 less hassel than putting the ice shack out on the ice.
Been living out at the shack alot and like last year January was slow caught about 5 turbot 4 redfish and 2 cod one of 5 lbs.

Jigger not all the time those pictures the turbot were caught at 200 feet off the bottom.
This one was caught monday at 4 am at a depth of 300 feet. It weighed 3 pounds and measured out at 22 inches.

Well 2015 is in the books for salt water ice fishing for a week now and it was a year to forget. Myself only caught about a totale of 10 fish in 51 days and most people around me it was the same thing. 2 guys I know even wrapped up there season a week early they were so fed up with the situation. Oh well like some would say crap happens well this year it hit the cealing.
Have a good summer all of you and next season will and should be better.

Sorry you had a bad season. We had over five feet of snow in Massachusetts which put a stop to much of our ice fishing season. Right now we are trying to get a few weeks in before the ice melts.
i hope you have a great summer and am looking forward to your reports next year.

This is the first I've ever even heard of hard saltwater fishing- two of my most favorite things to do... Although usually do them a thousand miles apart do you have anymore pictures? What do you usually fish for have you ever hooked a shark?? What's the highest fish you've pulled out of the ocean through a hole?!

Hi Fenwick. This type of fishing is done in the Saguenay River, province of Quebec. We are pretty far upstream from the St Lawrence Seaway. The Saguenay river is actually a fjord. It is deep. Fresh water flows from inland over the salt water so in the shallow water, we catch brook trout and smelt. In the deeper water, we catch salt water fish like cod, ling cod, spiny rays, Greenland halibut, flounder, red fish (or ocean perch) etc etc. Yes....a few Greenland sharks have been caught over the years. They are usually in the 400 lb range and are a protected species. 35 years ago, the fishing was miraculous. A couple of outings and you had enough fish for the family for the rest of the year. However, people indiscriminately caught as many fish as they could and sold them while other fishermen just piled up the fish beside the fishing cabins and bragged about how large the pile of fish they had. Both spêcies of fishermen are still held in high esteem for their fishing prowess while the fishermen who only needed to go a few times during the winter did not need cabins and were never known for their protection of the resource. Now, the fishing is terrible. A person is lucky to catch even 1 small fish. The red fish are trying to make a comeback and a person can catch tiny ones by the hundreds for every 10 inch adult. They are a very long lived fish and their growth rate is extremely slow. The best thing to happen to the whole thing would be to close the fishing for at least 10 years.
