Trial Lake Nov 10, 2019
« on: Nov 10, 2019, 10:06 PM »
Since duck hunting is a total bust right now, I started the ice fishing season a tad early this year.  I went up to Trial Lake with some other ice fishing fans.  Arrival temp at 8:30 was about 28*F.  There were already at least 20 folks already on the ice.  Our group headed up to the shallow end opposite the dam end.

We set up in 10 to 12 FOW and started catching rainbows almost immediately.  I moved out deeper a couple of times and found fish in all locations.  Most came off the bottom with a few coming on the JJ at about 7 feet down.  I ended up in 14 FOW and caught several there.

The others were going shallower looking for the elusive grayling.  Matt finally added 2 so he can take that species off his bucket list.  All but one of my fish were rainbows; the lone other was a tiger trout.  No size to any of them except the one that broke the line just as his head came out of the water.  A very fat, football type of rainbow that had to have gone at least a pound and a half – huge for Trial Lake.  Still crying over that one.

Now for the fish porn.

Arial view of our party; me in the middle of the picture, Skyler & Nick to my left, and Matt to their left.

The ice where I drilled holes was a tape measured 7" even.  We called it a day at 2 PM and when I got back to the truck, the air temp was 46*F.  Partly cloudy with variable breezes all day.  It was a very pleasant and fun day for a first trip of the year.  Tight lines all.

Here's a few more pics from the trip, 1st of course are the grayling I lucked out getting. Sorry I didn't get any other fish pics but the planter bows were not photo worthy and only one of my tigers was good looking but I put him back quickly. All fish were returned to fight another day.

Some ice thickness, 6-7in

A few more of the drone ariel shots, one day we'll get some videos going of these trips as the footage from that thing is great

and this is all that was left when we pulled out

great trip everyone  :woot: :woot:

Pretty sad that I have been to Henry’s And would rather be fishing for golden trout and Sailfin monsters. Nice Way to knock items off of the bucket list

Can you believe this year will be the 5th annual for Henry's and I haven't had a brookie until now. World class brook trout there and I get mine in the Uintahs. LOL Hopefully I'll get a nice colorful big one this year

That is definitely crazy! This past couple of days I probably caught close to 30 of them at Staleys.

I did not Dom. Decided my chain case on the sled needed an inspection and a new seal put on instead, before it gets put to work. Now that I got the goldens, grayling and brook them little planter bows that are the main catch didn't have the same appeal. Having the whole fam damnly at my place for Thanksgiving so this weekend will be out also with all the honey do prepping im going to be doing. Lol. Maybe the weekend after that
