This is a Q for open water but I have never been on the 'sister site' that I heard about. Does anyone troll using flutter spoons? Do you use sinkers ahead of the spoon to keep them down? Success? Tips?Maybe you can refer me a thread on that other site. thx

Blades work quite well for lakers.

You could use sinkers, leaded line, behind pop gear(cowbells) to keep them down.

Years ago many people used Sutton flutter spoons for lakers and trolled with lead core line. Those spoons are paper thin, maybe there are other similar spoons available, but almost everyone who went to Canada for lakers had them in the tackle box.

Use them all the time and the key is leadcore and lots of changes in direction while you troll. They work very well.

I have run them on downrigger setup where you can put the motor in nuetral and let them "flutter". As soon as you put it back in gear get ready!

Thx for the comments. I should have been more specific. I was thinking more of 'ice-out' lakers where I'd just need to get down 10 ft or less. I normally use reg spoons like Little Cleo but I thought a bigger flutter spoon would make more 'flash' and get more strikes.i

Well I do it to ways. The first is with a inline waited. How much is how deep you want to go 1/4 oz. to 3/4 oz. play with it . And the next is a 3 way use a deep diving hot a tot a bought to 3 feet long on the bottom and the spoon on top a bought 5/6 feet speed is just fast to pule it down to were you want it an the spoon to it's thing. This works good for walleyes to. The Hot a tot works like a fish Good luck. Colors is up to you and the fish.

I have used hot n tot as a crankbait to catch various fish just trolling and letting it dive.I don't understand how you are rigging it to a 3-way swivel. Why would it dive any deeper than normal?

They work great. Just need to get them in front of the fish. Usually a DR or leadcore for us.

Snap weights are the cheapest and most convenient option.

We used them off DR in Lake Ontario , shallower lakes I’m sure snap weights work just fine as would lead core
