Sure, there a lot of us that have spent the whole summer on IS just buying our time til ice is here.

My 7 yr. old son and I have the fever. We have reported our condition to the authorities (wife/mom) and they (she) are very concerned that something is seriously wrong with us.

I charged all the batteries again about a week ago.
Waxed the poles on the flip over.
I have a few small ice fishing projects to get done still.

After all the heat this summer brought, the last couple cool days have started giving me the fever. I started by coming back to the shanty to see what I missed the last few months, then I started working on some projects for the upcoming season. My wife asked me what I was doing, when I told her, she said I was crazy, that icefishing was months away. I told her I needed to be prepared. She just shook her head and walked away. Yep I got the fever.

im working on getting the wheeler ready....im building a nice box on the front rack to hold the auger!! im thinking about buying an eskimo gas auger anyone know anything about them the reviews look good

Just charged the Marcum. About to rebuild the carb and change the oil in the Rokon. Going to add a few ammo boxs on the back rack for storage. Actually dreamed about first ice last week. CAN'T WAIT FOR A NICE LONG SEASON!!!!!!!

I got it pretty bad! Now it's cooling down so I'm REALLY getting the itch! It doesn't help having the shack parked in the yard!

You just have to look back at all of the previous posts on here to see that it has been one long, hot summer and that everyone is hoping, and some praying, for a decent ice season this winter after the fiasco many of us had with ice conditions last winter!! :icefish:

For us down here, it was not as bad as last year. We at least got some fishable ice and I did get out several times!! I'm hoping for an improvement over even that!! :icefish:

The excitement is building ordered another Thorne Bros. rod got all the gear reorganized and checked out the flip over for anything that could of damaged it during the off season moths, mice, ect.

i was playing around with that new eskimo auger today and i can believe how loud the tranny is....the gears make a loud winding noise anyone expirience this?

last fall i changed out the clutch shoes and drive cup in my old jiffy . seems twice as loud. but no slipage.

my auger is brand new just got it in the mail yesterday...the shaft on the power head was hanging out of the box when it was delivered so that shaft was banging on every floor it was set down....so im guessing it got slammed down and damaged the tranny

I am looking forward to ice, but don't have the fever quite yet. My big boat is still in the water. I don't want to wish that away, but after that, watch out. I am looking at things, update shanty's and buying other stuff right now.

funny..I work in the offshore oil industry down here in the Gulf..when I'm not busy,I'm constantly online looking and ordering ice fishing stuff...my wife is always saying"Some more ice fishing stuff came for you today" and "what do you need ice fishing stuff in AUGUST for?" lmao

I started getting a little fever about a week ago when I could feel the humiditiy drop.
It got a lot worse when I woke up this morning! ;D
I moved a little north a year ago and I couldn't be more pumped for this season!
I've discovered some killer early ice prospects hiking these woods up here. ;)

Yep I got ice fever big time. I touched up the paint on my auger bit, waxed it, and am going to give my tip-ups a few coats of polyurathane. In between surfin this site and checking out some of the equipment sites.

this is my second 6" nills i have a pair of tankas [nills] that are about 30 years old and my 6" has a cracked flite which i will get fixed but just in case i have a backup also have a 4" thats the same vintage , caught the 6" at a sale , great auger in my oppion

I got one, but your the guy that gets the big ones , me and the snag are just happy getting a limit of keepers
Gamble the season may have been short, but the eye bite was smoking hot i can't remember a season being so hot and as soon as it reopened they were still on fire right up until 3 weeks ago, due to the bait explosion , but maybe the bite will be a little more normal this winter and a little thicker ice , i hope so

I spent 3 days working on mine this week. One of my fishing buddies came over and we open a bottle of Southern. Just wasn't the same....not cold when you stepped out. But it was nice! Getting some improvements in while the Wisconsin weather is nice !!!

Between 2 of us we filled 2 buckets...164 pumpkinseeds,perch and a few bass.
Fingertips were kinda sore from catchin' and cleaning fish. Kinda odd..a lot of the perch were suspended. I think this was the earliest I've ever been to catch some fall pannies.

im thinking maybe 7-8 inches! it prob weighs around 400lbs (rough estimate) and prob about 500 lbs in gear and 2 people in it should put it around 900lbs maybe i should wait for 10 inches of ice lol.....anyone have any advice?

We have a 6x9. we push/pull it out by hand. One guy pulling a long rope and one guy pushing! You have to watch the weather. IF it's going to warm up, don't put it out! Last year was tricky! We got it out though! One week later, guys were driving out with trucks (11+ inches)

2x4 runners, 7/16 floor, 2x2 studs, rubber roof, 1/4 siding. Just a basic light shanty....

So its prob around 300-400lbs......4inches of ice is kind of sketchy for that kind of weight when you add a guy or two inside the shanty......you never have any issues? :tipup: :icefish:

None so far. I admit we were pushing the limits of sanity! The ice got thicker over the next few days. That first day though...I was NERVOUS!!!

The frost we had earlier in the week got my blood pumping. It was awesome seeing my truck covered in what looked like millions of little diamonds from the flood light beaming on it. I feel confident that I'll be out on the ice before the end of deer season.

I was hoping to spend my extra 10 buck gift card when the ice fishing gear came out but while looking thru the fish'n gear at dick's sporting goods, they had rows of #14, 12, 10, and #8 treble hooks so I bought up 30 bucks of hooks and sinkers for the tipups. :tipup: :tipup: :tipup: ;D ;D @) @) :tipup: :tipup: :tipup: :tipup: AWWWWWWW it's killing me, I'm ready for ICE!! :tipup:

I am getting my ice fishing stuff out of storage today and setting it up for this winter ice. Last year no ice i bought a 14 foot aluminum boat for fishing and used it all last winter. Hopefully will get to sit on the ice this year.

After last year's dud, I'm chomping to get out there. Done lots of scouting, planned a few distance trips, marked up my calendar. I'll be sprucing up the sled once this silly hurricane blows by.

hope you are right bigzin. i would love to get out by then. we need some drop in temps to get these lakes started though. down here around albany it's been 40's and 50's at night. 10 day outlook has it getting down in the 30's at night coming up so cross your fingers and pray.

well if you guys want to use tip-ups in the summer its easy! just get a sheet of 1 inch styrofoam and cut a 2 foot circle out of it and then cut a 8 inch hole for your tipup. then lower your bait and set the flag and watch your tip-up float around. just make sure you have a boat to chase down your flags!

Over the summer I worked on some changes in how I carry and organize my stuff in my sled. Yesterday I got all the stuff out of storage and repacked the sled to sort of refresh my memory of my plan. I have my own PVC version of a Smity Sled set up and I modified it a bit too - made it simpler and lighter. Im ready that's for sure. Just need to get some new leader line and wait for Santa to drop a few things under the tree - I'm ready. Already planning some larger purchases for next year (or end of season sales). Did I mention I'm ready? There was snow on the ground here this morning and my wife was not thrilled when I started singing "Walking in a Winter Wonderland" and substituting ice fishing lyrics at 8:00 this morning. Well, she did like the fact that two of our three kids that had jumped in our bed ran downstairs to see the snow. Headed off to the local Gander Mountain in a bit to see if they have any of the ice mags left and what, if any, ice gear is out. Did I mention being ready?

We mostly spend our new years in the hamilton co mtns and I just about every year bring my gear with me, even if it's a hour on the ice, I'm doing it. ;D

This morning, with no ice anywhere, I drove down to Naples Creek and did a little rainbow trout fishing instead. The first time I've fished there in December in about 25 years. The water was about perfect after a day long rain. No one else was fishing. I expected to come home empty handed, but came home with a limit instead. Sadly the limit is now one fish per day when it had been three. it was a beautiful 20" male. Too bad I did not have a camera with me. Fishing in Naples Creek has been steadily declining for the last 40 years. With spring coming earlier every year, the April 1st opener has become a bad joke on the many fishermen who still throng there hoping to catch one.

Gonna be laid up from surgery for a few weeks at the end of December, plenty of time to sit on the couch and get my gear ready! Maybe I will get a new X67C in my Christmas stocking this year... :whistle: I'm looking at you, Santa!

Just finished planning a trip for the 21st. Got the report this morning of skim ice from shore to shore on a secret spot. With temps barely going above freezing from now to then and quite a few days in a row without getting above freezing it should be good. This lake holds northerns eyes Lakers and perch and has never been ice fishedd. If you guess it ill tell you. But you wont as this lake barelygets fished open water. Not sure too many people know about it. Hint adirondacks.

Go north and to high elevations and you'll have fishable ice next weekend. Buddy walked out onbthe ice at lake x last night when he was passing on his way to camp. Too sketchy for us to fish but with cold temps there from now too next weekend its going to be on.

its so easy to do man.. I have spent more than 3500 so far this year (since October), I built a 6x8x7-1/2 permanent shanty. Bought a 4x4 wheeler and a jiffy 8 inch gas auger. with other stuff. :tipup:

ive spent quite a bit myself i built a new permy and just picked up a underwater camera yesterday...new gas auger,jigs,tacklebox,jigs,plus tons of other misc crap did i mention jigs!
one more week till we get on the hardwater

BigZin315 I went out way more than three times last year!! as a matter of fact everytime we went last year I think you out fished me once!! maybe twice.. lets make it interesting lets go $5 a fish so if I catch 5 and you catch 3 you would owe me $10!! anyways I don't really care as long as we fish that's what its about

they said the high for today where i fish was going to be 27 degrees so i figured we could have some ice makin goin on... actual high today was 35.. just above freezing. so close! >:(

Holy smokes you guys started this post in August??? Back in August I tried out my Arctic Armour suit to see how well it floated and I was impressed. Definitely not water tight but it will save my life if I ever need it. Anyways back to the fever, I will drag out my sled & fishing trap and I will be ready for good ice hopefully next week! Be safe and GO CUSE!

I have it BAD!! Set up the hut in the spare room in my apartment and have been sitting in it messing with gear. Supposed to be highs of 19 and 10 on Wednesday and Thursday in Honeoye and since Honeoye is my home lake that's got me pumped! Can't wait to get out for the first time!!

the slush was not frozen it had an inch of frozen slush on top with two + inches of not frozen slush then an inch of black ice kind of like a slush sandwich!!! if the slush was frozen it would be some what fishable but for now we wait for the cold temps this week and i will check it friday

Drilled on a small 2 acre pond today, and even that was kind of sketchy. 2" at most, with slush layer on top. Really hoping this cold snap does what it is supposed to do!
