I made a crap ton of new purchases this season.  I tend to miss out on early ice because I focus on hunting so much. Also, when I moved from MN to WI 12-13 years ago, my time on the ice took a nose dive. I used to have a permanent house on a metro lake and I had a portable as well. But I'm not very familiar with the lakes around my home and most of the good lakes are about an hour away. I had even traded my old gas auger for a TV after I moved. So I was only going once, maybe twice a year for the last several years. But I have the itch again and I plan on getting a small Ice Castle that I can use for those weekend trips, either here in WI, or trips to MN with friends. Also, MN allows non residents to spear, which I had just gotten into before I moved.

So, getting to my point, my best purchase this year was a Jiffy Pro-Lite auger. I'm back in full force and have been out several times this year already and going spearing this Friday.

My Muk Lite CKX boots by Nat's.
(Image removed from quote.)
- 118 F, - 85 C Comfort rating

Same hear invest in a great boot. Kamik Mammoths Full rubber http://s7d5.scene7.com/is/image/CanadianTire/0870517_1?$medium$&defaultImage=image_na_EN&wid=250&hei=250 always end up in 3-6 inches water or slush 6-10 times a season. Fish all day stay dry and warm.
May your tip-up spool while your flag raises with hopes of landing the big one.

this season i'm buying an eskimo quikfish 6. last season my quikfish 3 tore all the poles out of the walls, and one of my suitcase shelters (that was very very old anyways) had a whole wall tear off. all i had left was a suitcase shelter i'm not fond of at all, because A. the holes are way too close to where you're sitting, and B. the poles are all conduit and putting it up in cold windy weather is a total drag, both due to difficulty and cold.

Couple past purchases ...Frabill chisel ...Kahtolla...Aqua Vu Micro 5 w/DVR ...Striker Ice Climate bib/parka

This year ...I purchased a refurbished Dewalt XR brushless 995 hammer drill for my Clam plate(older style) ..I must say with this season being quite a roller coaster with ice thickness ...it is my go to auger set up (w/SM 6" Lazer) what a pleasure to bring along and drill with ....my buddy likes it too

I also won a AV Micro Plus w/DVR in the spring ...very nice scouting tool ..size,weight portability ..all in one .

some tungsten jigs and an EC in line also have added to the season.
