If legal no reason it wouldn't work.

You might consider using line with little or no stretch.      ;)2

Tried it for the first time last night. Had three bites and hooked one, thinking about using a bobbed rig with it so I can add a little slack between the bobbed and trip mechanism to maybe let the fish get a better hold on the bait before the nice tripping sound gets ya all excited   ;D
safe ice, tight lines and god bless!

This sounds like a good idea.

I know this is an old thread but how did this trick work for you? Might try it on the gorge in a couple of weeks. Usually I just use my Jaw jackers as rod holders for the burbs.

I never got around to trying it. Have to mess with how much tension to pot on the trigger but once figured out it should work well
safe ice, tight lines and god bless!

Just turn the tension on the jacker up and give some slack whacks them everytime
if it bites I chase it

I used a single jaw jacker on Font a week ago. I set the tension just a little bit heavier than I do for trout and nailed one in 70' of water, a foot off the bottom. I will be setting more Jawjackers next time I'm fishing for the ling.

In my set up, I forgot all about my jacker sitting next to me until I heard the snap, reeled in a nice one, we call the cusk here in Maine

Ill set up two of my homemade jawjackers when im hole hoping with a little slack. Put catfishing bells on the rods. Work great to help find the depth they are active in

Does anybody use these for burbot?

Used JJ with jigging base right off the bottom with great result. Outfished my partners who manually jigged.

Yep, use them all the time up here in SK to catch lawyers. I set them up with medium tension on the JJ and run a fluorocarbon leader with a #8 or #10 treble hook loaded up with frozen minnows or tulabi chunks or pike belly.  Usually right on the bottom or 6inches off. Good Luck!

Just placed second in a burbot tournament in Wyoming using primarily jawjackers and jigging jawjackers for our dead rods. Caught nearly 1/3 of our 170 fish total just on the jigging jackers. Jigging was still more effective, but if we didn’t have the jackers out, we wouldn’t have done nearly as well.
