I've been reading some posts on this topic but can seem to find one taht directly answers my question. During the summer i catch loads of crappie by deadheads, meaning big logs in 10-20 FOW. It's how I learned to catch them and I was always taught to look for them. There's about five locations on one of the lakes I fish on where these deadheads can be found and the crappie are pretty much guaranteed at at least one of these locations in open water suspended about 3'to5' down. Are deadheads still good spots to fish once the ice comes in? They're all on the other side of the lake and i would have to go all the way around in order to avoid the thin ice by a river that flows in. Thanks.
