Fished Upper Twin yesterday with a couple brothers. Fishing was fast and fun, unfortunately of the 25 we caught only about 5 were worth keeping, all the rest were just to small. Ice was great 8"+ thick and it didn't seem to matter the color of lure or bait, they hit on all.
Started on Lower Twin and absolutely nothing happing there. very few holes down there too.

Is there anybody going to Fernan this morning and know what the ice conditions and fishing is like? The last 2 times that I have been out there the fishing has sucked.
the ice is good 6-8 the fishing though slow is producing so big 8-10 inch perch most lures being used are castmasters tipped with maggots but round noon switch to a small jig with ether maggots or wax worms

Heyburn State Park: 1/19/2014

Ice at 47.373797,-116.761163,  Chatcolet Lower Rd Launch, less than 1" and broken in spots, did not fish, dangerous ice conditions.

Ice at Rocky Point, 47.355426,-116.749902 .  5" of good ice, little sketchy at the boat ramp to the end of pier.

A lot of small perch, must have ice 40-50 fish, all smaller than 4" others were catching slightly larger fish maybe pushing 7".

Went out from long pier in 6 to 16 FOW, best action for small fish in about 12 FOW, switched to Swedish pimple silver with glow sticker hooked onto a large fish that got off.  I was tipping with wax worms and white spikes.  Good reports for pike, people getting flags daily at Rocky Point, I think that's going to be my plan for tomorrow.

Perch Roe -

I am a big fan! I prepare the roe the same way that I prepare the fillets. I toss it in a light corn flower with my spices then pan fry it. I grew up eating the roe of any of the fish I caught though and it's definitely something that some people do not enjoy.

That's probably because you are from China.

Great banter on the perch roe!  Figured it might get a conversation going.   :)  Being Midwestern and Finnish grew up with the stuff.  (PERCH ROE ONLY)  We split it, season with salt & pepper & fry till crisp in a mix of flour & corn meal.  Both roe and oil must be fresh.

^ NICE PIKE!

Fernan lake: 1/20/2014

Ice at 47.676658,-116.713908 , 7" measured, clear ice but decent amount of bubbles.  Ice was building tonight.

Ice everywhere else was pretty much the same, fished the east side exclusively.  Hot bite from 9-11 AM caught around 20 fish, 5 were keepers.  Bite slowed way down from 11 AM - 1 PM, moved locations to 47.67452,-116.717169 ended up catching the bite again from 1 PM to 1:30 PM, caught 10, with another 3 keepers, 1 perch over 12".  Caught two rainbows over 16" as well didn't keep either.

Fished with small silver Swedish pimple with glow sticker tipped with wax worm, also caught fish on small golden perch buckshot spoon tipped with wax worm.  When the bite was on I also got a perch on the Jaw Jacker dead sticking a Mudbug with wax worms 1 foot off bottom.  Small jigs and spikes didn't seem to produce as much.  Most active large fish were between 20-25 FOW.

Fished Lower Twin yesterday morning.  10 inches of good ice, but the fishing was slow.  Fished a dozen spots and saw fish on the flasher on all of them.  Had to work hard to get a bite. Ended up catching a few keeper perch and putting back quite a few dinks.
Fished Hauser Lake this morning.  Good solid 10  inches of ice.  Fished straight out from the boat ramp and towards the west.  Didn't see any fish on the flasher until I was in at least 20' of water.  Fished a dozen holes and marked fish on most of them. Most had lock jaw.  I did catch a small Channel Catfish about 15" long, and turned him back.  That was it.

Fished Rocky Point today. Moved all over and couldn't find any decent size perch.  Sun was out and the walk was good for me.

Went to Round Lake at 2:30PM . Did a lot of fishin and fishin and fishin with 5 poles/lines, Buckshot rattle spoon, PK Predator, red hooks, glow jigs, spikes, my own home grown compost red worms. Every hole measured 11", ice is solid, water very clear, ice music from 4:45 until 6ish. All fishin, no catchin. The skunk hat still fits.     :woot: :roflmao:       Me body feels like chopped liver.

Idahogator - Although I am bummed to hear you had the same experience at the dead sea that I did, I am somewhat cheered by the fact that it wasn't just what I was doing. :)
Better luck next time man.

Absolutely! We got to see the resident bald eagle, some ducks and geese and also heard turkey off in the trees. Well worth the trip just to be out in the woods.

I drove by it on Sunday and saw the open water then turned around. Did not feel like chancing it.

I also got skunked the last two times I fished round through the ice.
It is going to join Hauser and Fernan on the short list of lakes I will never ice fish again

Sounds like a lot of the fish have lockjaw this year :-\  anyways I got the new Vexilar Sonar Phone T-POD last night.  The guy at Cabela's recommended it and said that's what their "marine" guy uses for ice fishing.  Hopefully it's a good buy.  Anybody ever used one before?  I'm excited to try it out!

Nope never used it but that idea is super cool, hopefully it doesn't have any glitches, I can think of so many uses for a wireless depth finder.  Keep us posted on how it works!

Fished Cottonwood Bay (South end Lake CDA) across near the river. Eight other guys out, mainly fishing for pike.  Did find a concentration of fish.  Much sorting, but had enough for dinner.
