I went out on Kelso yesterday after work for a few hours. The ice was 11 in thick. The only bites I had was the trout stole my bait off of my tip ups with out my knowledge. :nono: Anybody know what the ice is like on Cocolalla? Does anybody know where there is safe ice besides Kelso & Granite? I think I will go out for a few hours today & catch some dinner. Unless I hear from someone I am going back to Granite or Kelso.

I drove by Cocolalla and Round today.  At Round the open water where the creek comes in has opened up alot.  Ice is pulling away from the shore. No one on the lake at all.    Saw 3 guys out on the south end of Cocolalla. One guy down off the tracks twards the north end.   Yahoo weather say 51 tomorrow.   Not a good sign.

I went back out to Kelso again yesterday. There was no water by the boat ramp area. The ice was 11 in by the dock & 14 in out in the middle. When I drove by Granite there was a little water by the dock but that was it. Out on Kelso the fishing was slow. The only water I saw at Kelso was at the outlet by the road.

I went out to Kelso lake today for a few hours. The ice was 8 in off of the dock & 11 in out in the middle with about 1 in of soft ice on top. If I don't get called in tomarrow I will go back out to Kelso or maybe Granite. When you are driving be Granite lake BE CAREFUL of the rocks falling off of the cliffs above the road. I almost got hit by 1 today.

It'll cool the water a bit, but I'll be on the dock/pier and may need to crack a hole in the skim ice.     ;)2

I hope to be ice fishing by x-mas.   I was ice fishing last x-mas.   My marcum vx-1 pro worked great.  Thinking of getting  a marcum lx-5.  Probably just stick with the old one because the new ones are a lot of change.

Yeah Jim stick with what works.  I liked my ICE 45 so got a 597 hummingbird with downscan for the boat and I can't do anything but read temp and depth.  Probably me and not enough time with it but all that color - the flasher works better.

My grandpa used a flasher and I can't believe how many more fish I can catch.  I would even get to the lake I was going to ice fish and then realize I had forgotten my flasher.  I didn't even get the gear out to fish and turned around and went home.  I shot my deer early so now I am ready to ice fish.  Hopefully by x-mas.

Reel trouble,

any fish finder is better than non.  being able to tell depth is really helpful in ice fishing.   I have never  used a fish finder like the one you got.  I just had a fishin buddy and it worked ok.  .  It takes time to learn a new fish finder.

You will be amazed.  Light biting fish show up on the flasher and you are able to set the hook of fish you otherwise would have not even known were there.  You can actually go from hole to hole and pick out which one has fish. You can make fish chase you bait up the water column, sometimes anyhow, you will like the ICE35 with its big screen. I have the 45 but I doubt there is much difference. Have fun and let us know what your experience is like.

Whats with this warm spell?  It just starts to look good and them it warms up again.   The last several years I was on the ice a week befor Christmas.  I hope that holds true for this year.... Im ready.
Flashers are the only way to go.  Id be lost without mine.   They are good all the time but really shine when fish are suspended.  They really make a big difference for blueback and crappie.   Come on cold weather...

There's a thin layer of ice on part of the LP slough by Priest River.  Mostly open water but some ice is starting!

I hope that weather report is right.  Tues. and wed. I had lows of 18 at my cabin near Clark Fork.  The shallow bays on P.O. were starting to ice over and this morning it was raining.  Not a good sign...

Yep, may need to get the ARK out of storage.

Hope the docks aren't too crowded, ha.
