Black River Bay, Lake Ontario as a kid. I don't remember catching much, but we built fires and cooked hotdogson them and went for sled rides behind the snowmobile. This was back when they had snowmobile races on the ice in Sackets and drove trucks on the ice. These days were lucky to get walkable conditions on that bay.

Then as an adult i started out pike fishing on Moon Lake.

It was the winter of 1975 and I was at college in Plattsburgh.  I took a walk down to Lake Champlain and couldn't believe how many perch guys were catching.  I'd never seen anyone fishing through the ice.  I went back to my dorm, wrapped some line around my glove, grabbed a few hooks and went back down to the lake.  One of the fisherman let me grab a perch eye and told me to drop it to the bottom in one of his unused holes.  I spent the rest of the afternoon catching perch after perch!  I was hooked and haven't stopped since.

Conesus lake in 60s and 70s it was considered one of the best perch lakes anywhere. The north end would have ice villages, as luck would have it I sat on a bucket ;D   it was a great place to grow up on the ice.

I was a 9 or 10 year old in the early 60s on Lake Champlain ice fishing for rainbow smelt.
We used short wooden hand poles and used smelt skin for bait.
