Keeping bass
« on: Feb 24, 2018, 03:33 PM »
Being from out of state (CT) I'm having a little difficulty understanding if you can keep bass through the ice in VT.

I have seen something about March 15 being the close of the season.

Is that for all VT lakes, including Champlain??

Thanks.

Only on some lakes and NOT Champlain. Check the F&W book for details.

Bass season is a bit different on multiple lakes and ponds in vt in the winter so as the previous person stated make sure to check the law book for wherever your going

Bass are native to our waterways and white perch are not. Whites are a "tasty" invasive. No getting rid of them...they are here catch all you can.

Impo bass are Brest in the winter especially smallies. I would assume the point of keeping them would be to eat them like every other fish. Summer vt bass don’t tans up as well kinda mushy and gamey compared to the cold water months.

Large and smallmouth bass are both native to the St. Lawrence but from what I’ve read only smallmouth made it into the Champlain basin naturally. But that is half of the State.

Native haha  ::)

White perch are related to white bass, yellow bass, and stripers. Smallmouths and largemouths are in the sunfish family so they aren't even related. I'm not a big fan of eating smallies and largemouths, and didn't like white bass, yellow bass or stripers to eat, never caught so never tried white perch.
