Very cool rig, certainly something your family and yourself should be proud of. I'm a big fan of bringing things back to life, especially if you can make it nicer than when it was new back in the day.

X2....I can just image how he will be fishing with his family for years in that shack and how they will always bring up what a POS it was and dad dragged it home and mom painted the thing for days.......we slaved at that thing for weeks....oh how we hated it......then they will be like hey dad it turned out pretty sweet......I'm glad we did it......

What made you decide on a wood burning stove? Why not propane?

I can get and respect that. I grew up with a wood burning cast iron wood stove we ran in the basement all winter on the farm. I also have a wood fire place I run in my house during the weekend durring winter months. Nothing is more fun then poking and playing with the logs and fire when burning wood. We use to put pans of water on top of the wood burning stove to keep the air from getting to dry. By morning the water was always gone and you had the mineral deposit in a frisbee disk.

Last update for a week or two. Hunting season starts here tomorrow so will take a little break. All cedar work is done now on all walls and the roof.  Also got satellite dish mounted today.    Ice can't come quick enough

Ok! Most of the interior is completed (install carpet, table, cushions and final wiring remaining).  I hung my catch cover saucers for the rod holders , rattle reels and cup holders.   I need to put up my tape measure, hang my scoop, coat hangers, rod and tip up stands, and a "glove bag".  What else would you all recommend? We hate clutter but want all the essentials to have a home.  Any recommendations?     Thanks in advance

You and your helpers have done a very nice job finishing the interior of the camper. Here are a few suggestions for things to add ,a wood storage box for the stove, coffee pot or two, mugs/cups for hot drinks , freeze dried/dehydrated meals.
The coffee pot/pots can also be used to heat water for things like instant soups/ramen noodle soups and making freeze dried/dehydrated meals. The instant soup and meals could come in handy if you had to stay over night due to weather conditions.
Looking forward to seeing camper/shanty out on the ice.
Steve

How do you like the rattle snakes? I bought an Ice Castle this year and bought a few to use. The look good.

Agro- Congrats on the ice castle!   I actually have never used the rattle snakes yet; everything I have read speaks highly of them. -29C here today so don't think it will be much longer and I will get to try them out

Gut hook- I hate being cold! If it gets too warm I will open the door lol

Hahah.  My wife is first in line for handy man projects; apparently I need to tackle a few tomorrow!

Here are a couple more pictures of progress

This is a rod holder I built today with PVC

That is the table we built (shout out to John for his drilling skills!) with the crib board!

The cushions are built, carpet is cut and all the final pieces should be installed this week.  Will post the final product once it's done; everything looks like we should be ready to fish within two weeks

I've seen a lot of ice shack builds on here and this is probably my favorite one. A good plan and attention to detail go a long way and it's easy to see you had both. Cheers and tight lines, I'm sure you'll have it christened with fish slime soon.

Congratulations your shanty looks great just as nice as many of the commercially built models. Eagerly awaiting pictures of it's maiden voyage on the ice.

My one and only dissapointment about the build is knowing I'll never fish in it. Great work man.

Thanks all! I can't wait to post the picture of the first fish "sliming" the cushions; counting down the days now (-20C again this morning)

Anyone the ventures to Southern Sask is welcome to send me a note and I will take you out for a day on the ice!
adversecity- I will watch for your shack (great build by the way) and say hi if I make it to Newell this winter
