Title: I Finally Started My"Tip Down" Shanty...
Post by: Wyoming_Ice on Mar 01, 2017, 10:22 PM
I have been kicking this build around for a couple of years now. I have finally started the shanty.
First of all I would like to Thank Beeler for his build a few years ago. I have studied his thread for several hours over the last years. His awesome build is the inspiration for my tip down build.
Thank you again Sir !!!

Okay, here I go...
The shanty is 6' X 7'. It's base is 2"x 4" pressure treated. With 1/2" plywood on top. 1 1/2" and 2" board insulation to fill the gap between plywood and the ice.
1 1/2" X 1 1/2" Studs with 1 1/2" board insulation in between them for strength.

The windows are double pane Lexan. The two side windows will pivot out for ventilation.

This is a start. I have more photos and will post them soon.

I forgot to post pictures of the trailer that will be attached  to the shanty. It is a small flatbed that I picked up from a friend. Thanks TR Fishing !!!
I need to extend the tongue and weld some gussets on it.  It will be roughed up and painted as well.

It will be worked on as soon as I finish the shanty.

Looks Good Wyoming! ....The last few seasons I used a Shappell Bay Runner, not as nice as the "Tip Down". Thinking about building another one this fall. Not much I would change on my design. I still would use the boat shrink wrap for the outside of the shanty, (it's free).
Keep posting pictures.

I will be following your progress. I've been thinking about one of these for two winters and need to get with it. My old shanty is falling apart and it's time for a new one.

Maybe I'm missing it but...where's the space for the door?
Title: Re: I Finally Started My"Tip Down" Shanty...

The door is facing my shop wall right now. I have a slope on my floor and the shanty is on small blocks to level it.
It is built and in place. If you look at the photo with the hole covers, you'll see the door in between them.
I'll snap a photo today and post it tonight.
Sorry for the confusion....

Yes, Photo Bucket really screwed a lot of people. They clam they have 15 million images that they hosted on their web site for free. Then one day they blocked all your pictures that people might have posted on different web sites, like Iceshanty.com. And if you wanted to see your picture again that you posted on Iceshanty.com you had to pay $399.00 each year. Their are other free web sites anyone can use to host your pictures so that's a good thing. It's a lot of work reposting all your pictures.

I'd definitely be interested in seeing some action shots/how it slept. Looks awesome from what I can see!! I'm wanting to build pretty much exact same thing, same dimensions and everything. I have all my materials gathered and trailer just gotta start now. One thing I'm confused on....when shack is upright, does trailer go all the way to ice/bottom plate, or does shack hang off trailer? Thanks man looks killer

Hey Thanks WW 09 !
Yeah, I have some 3"X3" tubing welded on the back (bottom when flipped) of the trailer. It helps while the tipping process is going on. I'm heading out in the morning and I'll take some photos of the "bumper" and action shots. Will post when I get home Sunday.

Hey Thanks Beeler !
I was only able to get it out 5 or 6 times this winter. Our ice got a little spooky in February.
I really enjoyed fishing and sleeping in the new shanty.
I still have to paint the trim and a few minor things this summer.
Thanks again for your advice and inspiration. Tight lines.

Hi Wyoming_Ice, It's a nice concept shack and it's so easy for you to take it home with you at the end of the day and have peace of mind that it's home save and sound.
