this topic has been discussed and beat to death but...vexilar any model you can afford.i started with a fl8se but if you fish for bottom hugging fish you might want to check out a vexilar model with the zoom feature.

Under 100$ the lowrance x4 pro is what I've  been using for 3 years! I upgraded to an ice transducer this year but I didn't really need to it was 60$ and just made its use much simpler ! You really don't need to spend a few hundred at all! I fish from 10 to 120' for trout no problem at all! Portable too so you can use it on your boat if you have one

marcum troller 2.0 made in usa. 200$ digital and no moving parts. make a float like vex uses out of a swim noodle. can add the pro pack later that holds it and a 12volt battery. i think that costs 50$. has better target separation than humminbird! free ship.

click the marcum logo on the top of almost every page and sign up for 10% off your first order. they support this site so we can help you help yourself. no other sonar/flasher/fish finder company cares enough to do that here. so try to support those who care about us here!
you'll get 40$ off so only 160$ for a digital sonar for ice fishing.
thanks!
