« on: Dec 05, 2013, 12:00 PM »
so what on the to do list stuff you got to do before ice get here?

1)set the shanty up and air out =check it's done
2)get a new lantern= still got to full fill
3) new ice line = check it's done
4) get some propane for the heater and lanterns= still got to full fill
5)go threw the equipment and make sure it is in order= check it's done

so what on your list of stuff you got to do before ice season get here?

Still need to re-line reels. line too old now.
Refill 1lb propane tanks for heater and lantern
Need to coat/fill in countersunk bolts of Smitty Sled skis with resin (the countersunk bolts collect ice clumps when pulling through the slush).
Order spikes

Rebuild my ice sled. I had an older plywood and 2 x 4 sled on skis I built to carry all of my gear (I had an old 2 man Viking that pulled like a brick). I would put all of my rods, lantern, minnow bucket, etc into 3 or 4 milk crates and bungee them down and put the auger and fishing buddy graph on the sled and pull it out on the ice. Now that I have a clam hub in a bag I tore down the sled and need to rebuild one. The old one had a piece of plywood almost 4' x 4' - now I can consider something much narrower and lighter. I had the deck of the sled elevated about 18" to keep the deck from plowing through snow.

Only bad thing is the old sled worked great as a wind block when set up on end. I'll have to keep that in mind when making the next one. Used to be I would fish outside more often than not because the old Viking was way too small a fishable area for me.

Oh - yea I need to also catch more steelhead before the ice shows up - I'm way behind this fall - the conditions have been crappy and the river spot I have done well in has produced zero for me this year.....

Getting over this huge lump in my stomach. Thursday buried the best mother-in-law a man could pray for and then on Friday spending the last 7hours of you best friends life (Riley, the Golden Retriever) on the floor  with her until she died from the injection the vet gave her. Then another hour on the floor saying good bye. Really looking forward to fishing meaning something to me or anything for that matter, cause Im really hurting :>( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

I've procrastinated this whole time. I just took my summer fishing gear out of the jeep today. The camping gear is still in it.
