I have seen a lot of color variation among yellow perch, but none without bars!  Nice catch.

Two of them are Blue perch... there are a few threads over the last two years.  They are a genetic mutation that lacks, I think the yellow pigment.  It gives them a blueish color.

Cool stripeless perch
1st thought: heterozygous DNA code for no stripes
2nd thought: immature walleye? (but probably not, looking at fin positions)

The employment of effort, hard work, time, and energy put in locating fish will offend noone.

the mutation is a good guess, weve caught 4 or 5 stripeless on cayuga, or very very pale stripes. but ive never seen perch as blue we caught quite a few of those on cayuga, pretty cool having a stripeless one come up though

I think you are on the right track there...but it would probably be a homozygous recessive of some sort (having two of the same and very uncommon alleles).

fileted and tasted and looked like perch to me (when fileted)
actually caught 2 like that this year, the other was too small, about 5 in
glad you guys thought it was as different as i did
kind of amazing in our group we caught a few thousand fish and only 1 or 2 came out without stripes

I always get the 2 transposed.  Led to some headaches in bio.

i use to fish cayuga when i lived in rochester. we used to catch many 90%, bluegill and seeds that also had a beautiful light blueish type glow. never seen anything like it anywhere else but cayuga.

Too bad they aren't crossed with Blue Pike. I remember many stories from my deceased Dad about the Blue Pike. Any older members ever eat one. If so what did they taste like? When was the last time one was caught? Any pictures you can put on the site?

My Dad caught a "stripeless" perch this week on Chatauqua.  It was odd.  It had the exact coloring off a walleye, but was definitely not a walleye.  It was the exact same shape and size as all the other perch we were catching out of there.  First time we had ever seen something like that.  We should have taken a picture!
