Ice fishing a sport, or just reason to buy stuff?

To save weight I went with two by four struts and my part of Wyoming the wind blows the snow away so four inches of deck heigth with down hill skis works out real well. I am on my third conversion and it gets better each time I rebuild it. Expect to happily alter your sled to fit your individual snow conditions.

I used 2x4s and notched them only a 1/4". With my Kenai, heater, vex, hand auger, and bait pale it pulls nice without plowing. On lakes with alot of traffic it does have problems in the ruts but I just try to avoid them.

You can't catch fish in the parking lot.
