I was up near Clear Lake yesterday for the holidays. Ponds fifty miles south of there were mostly or entirely open, as was George Wyth lake on the north side of W-loo.

Ponds thirty miles south of CL--as close as I got--were open at the edges, and looking very bad in the middle.

Personally, I would not bother driving to Clear Lake from any distance at all without a good reliable report that there is still good ice there. If you do go, BE CAREFUL.

Was out this morning ice was about 5 inches. Ice was junk around the edges. Ice was definitely talking quite a bit had some cracks come under the portable. Always be cautious

I bet there were 30/40 people on the ice on little lake when I drove past this morning at 10.  Did you even look at little lake or just guess?

Sorry ice fisher, I meant the guy who posted he wouldn't drive to clear based on ponds south without going to the lake.

Well, he DID say the closest he got to Clear Lake was thirty miles away,,,,,, so I doubt he could see the lake.
take care,

I will give you credit though.  Better safe than sorry.  A report of poor ice with better conditions is better than a good ice report with crap ice conditions!

I'm sorry, it just rubbed me wrong to see all of those ice houses on the lake, then get home to see someone say they wouldn't drive very far to get there due to poor ice conditions (in the area).  It is my fault, mostly due to wishing I could have stopped and fished myself, and I should have left well enough alone before I typed.  Good luck to all of you!

Classic case of "Should've been here yesterday!" Fished from 9 to noon this morning caught about 20 little yellows myself and one 8" perch,  pretty slow!

Ice on the little lake is good, fishing was a different story. A good 6 " of ice. I felt comfy the whole time. Felt good to be fishing.
I'm gonna miss her,when I get home.

Does anyone have a list of reefs with gps coordinates for clear lake? I just installed the
Navionics app and wanted to plug in some fishing spots. Any help would be appreciated.

http://www.iowadnr.gov/Portals/idnr/uploads/fish/maps/cle17.pdf  The local bait shop will have maps with the coordinates or you can compare this map with contour line to google earth and get your coordinates from that.
take care,

A buddy and I made the drive yesterday. Caught one dink walleye, yellow perch, couple dozen yellow bass, and one 11 inch crappie. We fished for about 9 hours. Nothing spectacular but is was finally GREAT to be on ice!!!

Spent 12-315pm out on the ice this afternoon on the west side of little lake. Fished at 10 feet. The vexilar was pretty active. Ended up with 2 perch using wax worms. Threw them back in. Talked to a couple of other fishers and heard some good success fishing at 20' and off the bottom.

Fished the little lake on the 2nd.  Stayed there about 3 hours.  We kept 4 nice crappies, 1 9.5" perch, and one yellow.  Threw back a decent amount of small perch and yellows.

Hey guys, new to Clear Lake, and would like to get some fishing in this winter.  If anyone would be willing to PM me with some "tips" or spots fishing the lake, little or big, it would be greatly appreciated!

Last weekend I used a white clam xl jig with 3 spikes (maggots) had equal success with white or red. Sunday I used white clam xl jig with the clam maki plastic mino( white with red speckles.) I was in 10' water jigging 1' off bottom bouncing it off bottom occasionally.  1/32oz jig
